I am 53 years old and had RNY bypass on Sept.29th, 2014 after suffering from many health issues. It took about 18 months for me to lose all of my weight and a little extra to boot. In March of 2016 I hit my weight goals but almost immediately following surgery started to reap the benefit of weight loss surgery. Prior to RNY I had severe gerd, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, hypothyroid, severe osteoarthritis of the spine as well as psoriatic arthritis. I lived like that for many years until one day I got a diagnosis of stage 3 kidney disease.

For me, it was the catalyst that brought me to my decision to have surgery. Within just a few short months I was able to stop all medications for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, severe gerd. Within a year I was off bi-pap.

Of course I still deal with the osteo and Psoriatic arthritis, hypothyroid and migraines but even some of this has improved.

RNY gave me my life back literally. I consider it to be the most important thing I have ever done for MYSELF. When i started, getting thin and fitting in great clothes never even occurred to me. My health was what I was most concerned with.

Now, all the other stuff became important to. I have 2 grown boys and 2 beautiful teenage granddaughters. We like to travel together and simply enjoy each other's company.

In July of 2016 I began the process of getting rid of some of my loose skin. I started at 315 lbs and my lowest weight was 158. As I began to stabilize, I stay between 160 and 169. I am comfortable there. As you can imagine it left me with lots of loose skin on my arms, waist, chest, legs and lets not forget, my now missing derrière.

I had brachioplasty in July and 11 days ago had a full abdominalplasty, breast lift with augmentation. Even with all these lovely stitches and scars my body looks and feels fantastic. All that loose skin was pulling on my back, neck and shoulders and honestly i would get infections in the folds so I had it done not only for my own mental sake but for my health as well.  And......my body has a lovely shape again so I am thrilled with my results.

I know that I can continue to maintain my weight although I have found this phase to be much more difficult than the weight loss phase. My goal is to never again get so heavy that I negatively impact my health or my family. I love being independent and looking and feeling great.
