"My first impression of Dr. Husted was that he was a very kind and caring individual that was really understanding of the obese people. He requires everyone considering the surgery to attend a two hour seminar, which his nurse does the first hour and he does the second hour. In this he answers any and all questions people have concerning this surgery until they fully understand. His office staff was wonderful too, they were so helpful in every way. Janet sent my letter right off to the insurance company and within two weeks it was approved without me having to have any contact with them myself, this was great. And Jamie, his nurse, there just aren't enough good words to say about her. I had considered another doctor at first, which I was told would call me within two weeks, yeah right! It was two months before he called, but in the mean time I got busy researching and found Dr. Husted through a lady that my husband works with, he had done her surgery and she was very pleased. I got his name and number from her and gave them a call and two days later I was sitting in a seminar and had an appointment with him that very same day. When I got to his office and spoke with Jamie and told her about the other doctor, she said, "Some doctors don't treat the whole person, they just treat the disease." This is something that will stick in my mind forever as a very caring and compassionate feeling. This is something that I really needed to hear at that time. Dr. Husted does have very active support groups in areas all around Nashville, and he and his nurse get involved in these as well. He encourages everyone to go, something that you need at this time in your life. His aftercare program is stressed very highly, he emphasizes that this is a tool he is giving you to use, he is doing his job, now you must do yours by using it properly. He lets you know up front that you will have to be followed for life after this surgery. During the seminar he let everyone know all the benefits and risks of this surgery. If you had a question it was answered, and if for some reason someone did not understand he would explain it again in a different way until they did understand. He or his nurse were in no hurry, they took their time, all the time anyone needed. If I had to rate Dr. Husted on a scale of 1 to 100 I would give him and his staff a 200. I do belive that surgical competence is one of the most important things a doctor should have, but with Dr. Husted he seems to have that and the bedside matter, well that seems to come naturally. I would recommended him highly to anyone in the TN area looking for a good surgeon.
10/28/01 My feelings about Dr. Husted have not changed, he and his entire staff are the greatest. There is nothing I could possibly say negative about these folks. In my book they are the greatest, and Dr. Husted has changed my life forever. "
