Brenda, I was given a newsletter at my consult with Dr. Oakley. Your name is listed on the front. I am looking for advice/encouragement on my upcoming DS surgery, which is March 24th. They gave me a book by Barbara Thompson, which I just finished reading. It has a lot of good information about vitamins and that type of thing, but it is mostly for RNY patients. I know that the DS is the surgery for me, but when I read that the risk of leaks is much higher than with the RNY, Igot scared. I hope to be able to come to the support group meeting on the 20th. I think that it will help just being in the company of people who have been through this with the same surgeon. I talked to a really nice girl named Tricia Ryland, but Dr. Ediger did her DS at St. Al's. There aren't a lot of DS'ers for me to talk to in this area! Have you had any complications? How are your protein levels? Thanks and God Bless, marie

awesome pic...you've done excellent. I want to be that successful. My surgery is 1-13-03. Freakin' out...very nervous. Pray for me.

Congradulations! 1 year and great success I am watching your progress, as I am nearly the same weight and age just a little shorter, (5-7). I will have the same insurance after the new year. UHC PPO. I would appreciate any information if you would like to email me. Will this dr accept payments for any remaining balance that isn't covered by insurance? Do you recommend the dr and the hospital care? Thank you, and again congrats. Kathy

Brenda, YOU look awesome even tho the pic you have isnt the latest. Keep up the good work and you will get to your personal goal. I did some research on DS as well. I asked if where I am currently suspossed to have surgery at if they did the DS there and was told no only the RNY. I really want the DS for the same reasons that you stated along with the proven facts. Now that the possiblity of us moving to another place and me having the surgery elsewhere exists, I can only hope and pray that there is a surgeon that does the DS there!!!
