I am a 39 yr old mother of two boys (14yr old and 11mo old). I am married to a wonderful man. I am an Army wife. I also served in the Army...My heaviest weight is 264. My issues with obesity began 14 years ago after having my first child. After having my son, I was 150 lbs 5'4" which by Army standards was obese and could have gotten me put out of the military without a way to provide for my son. That is when I started "dieting." I tried everything from Phen Fen to Weight Watchers to South Beach so on and so forth. The list goes on and on. I was able to keep my weight down to stay in the Army but when I got out the weight came back and brought some friends. In 2000, I was diagnosed as having PCOS which contributed to packing on even more of the unwanted/unsolicited pounds. I went from 165 to 200 in less than 4 months. I have struggled ever since. Fast forward to 2009...While pregnant (miracle in itself) with my second son, I had gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. This was one of my wake up calls. I am destined to have Type 2 diabetes (heredity) which scares the crap out of me. The other wake call - my father had triple bypass surgery on Christmas Eve. I favor my father in looks, personality, and all the health issues. I want to be around to take care of my children. Not only to watch them grow up, but to actively participate in life with them.

I am just starting the waiting game, and am looking for people to share experiences and advice to help me through this journey.
At this point I have had the initial orientation, did all the lab work x-rays and ekg, and have had the initial appointment with the surgeon. Still need to meet with the nutritionist (Oct 14) and the psychologist before I can find out if I have the final approval for surgery.
