Waiting is boring :(

Dec 25, 2012

I started a countdown clock. I check it often even though it doesn't move very fast. I don't have the whole "anticipation is killing me" thing going right now. I'm just ready for it to be here. It's kind of boring. It's nice to know things are moving forward, but I feel like I'm just sitting around waiting for my life to begin.

Wise words by Elina_7

So far, this is what I have observed from successful maintainers:

1) Almost all of them continue to be observant and mindful of what they are eating.

2) Most of them weigh themselves regularly or measure themselves.

3) They seem to have an internal locus of control.  That means they take full responsibility for their mistakes and own their successes.  They know that they are the ultimate decider regarding the efficacy of this surgery.

4) They have a plan and they modify the plan as necessary. They have flexibility in their thinking and allow themselves to take in new ideas and to grow with the process.

5) They either already have or form a strong support system to help them through the tougher times and to be accountable to on a regular basis.

6) They exercise.  I don't think the calorie burn is the biggest issue here.  Yes, you build muscle and burn calories but I think the most important thing about exercise is that it forces you to continue to focus on your body.  Most of us have learned to separate our head from our bodies, and exercise forces us to stay connected.

7) They have a goal range and when they go even a little bit out of their goal range they go right back into the losing phase.

Consult done, now psych eval

Nov 29, 2012

Yep. It's really becoming real. Once the psych eval is done on December 5th my medical records will be sent to insurance. After I'm approved I will have a pre-op appointment to go over final stuff and get my directions for the pre-op diet. From what I know so far is they require you to do 10 days of Bariatric Advantage shakes, a protein bar and vitamins. Bring it! I'm sure I will be singing a different tune once that diet starts, but it will be soooo worth it!

Trying to Breathe

Oct 25, 2012

I have just begun.

I have done my research and know that I need the help and the VSG is the right surgery for me. I'm trying to breathe, figuratively and literally. I haven't even had my 1st doctors appointment. My insurance only requires me to meet BMI rules and a psych eval. I have no question about being approved. I have great insurance. I'm nervous, but not about being approved or my life after surgery. I'm just terrified of the surgery itself. I've never had surgery of any kind. Not even a single stitch. Well, I lie. I have had stitches from having my children, but I guess since I never had any complications, I never considered my giving birth as anything dangerous; Though I know that it truly can be. I am worried about complications. I have a disabled husband and 4 children. What if something happens? What if the worst happens? What if not the worst, but the second worst happens? I am the bread winner in the house; What if something happens and I can no longer work or God forbid, I DIE!?! These are my biggest worries. More than my life changes or the surgery. I worry for my family.
