Well, this is it!

The countdown begins. I start my pre-op liquid diet tomorrow. In 2 weeks I will be in surgery. I started this journey so I could get rid of my diabetes....the weight loss will be a bonus.

Diabetes runs in my family on both sides. My grandparents had it, my aunt had it, my uncle has it, my father had it, and my mother has it. With genes like that, I was doomed. My older sister is too scared to get tested (she says).....she doesn't want to know if she has it or not. ~sigh~ That kind of thinking is going to get her killed. My younger sister (hopefully) gets tested...I believe. I mean, she is a nurse so I hope so.

I have researched the DS for 10 months so I am positive I've made the right choice.

A little history: I was not obese growing up. I never weighed over 100 pounds until after high school. Once I had my 2 children at age 21 and 26, I started gaining weight (never lost the baby weight) and 6 years ago I was diagnosed with diabetes. I thought I could keep it controlled, but I am on 3 oral meds and its still not controlled well. My doctor for some reason didn't want me on insulin, so when I found out about the DS I knew that it was my answer.
