Pre-op Started!

Aug 11, 2009

Well, I started my pre-op diet today. So far so good. I only have to do low carbs, which is good. You know the first couple of days are ruff, but after that is pretty easy.I just have to do 40 or less carbs a day. I have everything in order and will start to do some exercise tomorrow. I plan to do just walking the first 6 weeks. Hopefully, at least do a few miles a day. 16 more days left........

APPROVED AND DATE SET

Aug 05, 2009

I have been approved and have a date set for RNY on August, 27 2009.  It feels real now!  I am starting my pre-op diet tomorrow.  Which is basically just low carb/low cal.  I am glad it is not liquid.  Although, I do plan to use protien shakes.  Well, keep me in prayers as the date approaches.  I know the journey will not be easy, but I hope it will be worth it.

Awaiting Approval and Date

Jul 27, 2009

Final meeting with surgeon went well.  I am just waiting on insurance approval and a date.  I should hear something within the next day or two.  I am expecting to have surgery within the next 3 to 5 weeks.  Pray for my safe journey!

ALL APPOINTMENTS COMPLETE.

Jul 10, 2009

I have completed all my preop appointments with success.  My final appointment with the surgeon is July 27,2009@230.  I am hoping to get a date for Mid August at the latest.  The sooner the better.  I have been thinking of this for so long.  I am ready.

I will be going for the RNY instead fo the Lap Band, since I have found that I have a hiatel hernia and my BMI is slightly over 50.  I think it will be better for me in the long run.

One more appointment to complete pre-op

Jul 01, 2009

I had my endoscopy today.  I found out that I have a hiatal hernia.  The doctor has made a suggestion to get RNY since the Lap Band will be going over the area the hernia is.  I really had by mind on Lap Band, but my BMI is on the higher end. Oh well, everything does happen for a reason.  I have one more evaluation left before my package goes to FED BCBS.  Hopefully, I not have any issues for getting approval.

PRE-OP GOING SMOOTH!

May 14, 2009

I have completed almost all my pre-op appointments.  I only have two left, one is scheduled in the beginning of July.  So I most likely will have surgery the end of July or early August.  Just working on losing some pounds before surgery and changing my diet.

Appointments scheduled...process rolling

Apr 21, 2009

I have my first consult with my new surgeons office on April 16.  I am now wating to get all the preop apppointments.  All I need to do is request my medical records again.  This office has it setup so that the PYS, NUT, etc. all call you to setup appointments.  So far I have a Pys. eval scheduled for May 15, NUT is May 11.  I assume it may take up to 3 months to get it all done.

Starting again with new Dr

Mar 09, 2009

Well, I am starting the process with a new surgeon.  I will be having my first appointment with Southern Surgical of Greenville, NC.  Hopefully, I will have a better experience than the last.  My last Dr's staff made me feel like a meal ticket.  They did not want to go along with my insurance's requirments.  I plan to go with the RNY this time.

Seeking a new surgeon

Feb 15, 2008

My surgeon and FED BCBS did not click very well so I am now looking for a new surgeon.  Dr. Harris requires his patient stay overnight for Lap Band, but BCBS says it is not required and will not approve it with an overnight stay.

Dr. Harris was not willing to change or fight the issue, so of course they denied it!  The nurse called me and said "I can come pick up my records and do a patience appeal" Basically, they kicked me to the curb.

I was totally shocked because I thought Dr. Harris was a better doctor.  It seems like he just wants people in and out and if anything happens they are not willing to help.  The sent my paperwork in wrong which was also part of the reason I got denied.

I was disappointed, but everything happens for a reason.  My girlfriend went through the surgery with him, but now she has a $30K bill because it was not properly approved.

I am going to take my insurance where the Dr. is able to meet there requirements.

Dr. Harris is no longer on BCBS Bariatric Centers of Excellence.

My surgeon's office has mixed up some paperwork.  They have to resubmit for approval.......so my date is unknown right now.  Apparently they left out my nutrition consult.....they are so unorganized!!!!
