My son is having the surgery, too! YES!!! :)

Jul 25, 2008

Thank you ALL for your prayers! My talented, intelligent, handsome son is having the same surgery, RNY (lap) on Aug. 21!! We are so excited! God bless him! He was told 2 months ago he had to lose 20 pounds and I was really afraid he was chickening out and not trying to lose the weight. Then he went Tuesday (after seeing how well my surgery went, I think) to weigh in and he's lost 25! He's 6'2" and weighs around 420. We will be in this journey to a healthier life together! I wish his father was on this path with us, but he didn't get on board ("no one is cutting on me!") when we did. Then, the company changed insurance mid-year and anyone not in process with WLS wouldn't be approved.

Anyway, Corey is going to need prayer! I'll keep ya posted!

7/19/08 Surgery went GREAT!

Jul 25, 2008

Surgery went GREAT!!! I came home yesterday from the hospital. Dr. Williams was able to successfully do it all laproscopically (was very "iffy") and it took him 1.5 hours just to get through all the scar tissue. After that 1.5 hours to do the Roux en Y. Bless you, Dr. Michael Williams, for not giving up and perserving through! I feel GREAT!!! I haven't even napped today and am barely taking pain meds. I'll be going back to work in two weeks. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!! Thank you, EVERYONE, who offered up prayers for my surgery and recovery!

Now, let's pray for my son, who is 20 and morbidly obese. He had to lose some weight before his date is set. He's going in tomorrow to weigh in. Hopefully we can get his date set SOON!! He needs this surgery soooo badly!

I love this place!

I love reading these encouraging posts and helpful info, and meeting new friends. Thank God for OH!

Surgery is July 17!

May 14, 2008

I can't believe it! My surgery date has been set! But it's more than 2 months away, and I'm apprehensive that my insurance will change their mind (AGAIN). But we're moving forward. AND my son has had a change of mind and heart and he's on board now, too! He has to lose 20 pounds, get his weight confirmed, then get surgery scheduled.

I'm excited! But the post-op seems so OVERWHELMING! What foods to buy, what I can and can't eat, how to eat, when, I mean juggling all that with working so many hours like I do ... eating fast food has been all I have time for (gee, guess that's why I'm so fat???). This lifestyle change does seem overwhelming. I'm just reading bits and pieces off people's blogs; I haven't gotten anything from the dr. or nutritionist yet, so don't really know what to expect.

I won't be paid for the 2-3 weeks off work post-surgery. I'M PRAYING SO HARD I'll be able to get it done laproscopically!! If Dr. Williams can get through all the scar tissue from previous hernia surgeries, C-secion and MRSA surgeries, it should go ok. If it's open, it could be 6-8 weeks recovery. When you live paycheck to paycheck and have to come up with  almost $2,000 prior to the day of surgery, I don't know HOW I can be off work with no pay.

BUT IT'S ALL IN GOD'S HANDS!! :) I'm getting very anxious but I guess that's to be expected. I hope somebody out there will see my post and add me to their friend list and encourage me. I really could use someone to hold my hand to get through this ...

Got approved for surgery!

Today was the first "big day". I GOT APPROVED TODAY. My 20-year-old son and I BOTH got approved by insurance. I just have to have cardiace clearance and he has to lose 20 lbs to shrink his liver. Now he's starting to chicken out on me. i want him to go first so I can help him adjust to post-op in case I have any complications (due to previous surgeries mine may turn into a lap to open). I can't let him chicken out! I would forgo this hard-fought journey to have this surgery 10 times over just to let him LIVE by having it. He says he doesn't know whether it's work the RISK, and having his insides all rearranged permanently, while having to give up "regular food" the rest of his life. ???  SIGH. Need your prayers.

Cardiac Clearance Testing is Friday!

May 06, 2008

Cardiac Clearance Testing is Friday! As soon as the results are sent to Dr. Williams (I'm confident everything will be fine, because I had no problems when I had the stress test and echo in Sept. 01), then they can schedule my surgery! In as little as 3 weeks out from then!! Wow, it's really becoming a reality. Please pray for Corey. He needs it worse than me....
