Called insurance company...
Nov 04, 2012
So I called my insurance company & they do still cover WLS. Thank goodness. The girl didn't know if they covered revisions, but I did make sure to ask her if there was a one time only exclusion, since I read on here that some insurances will only pay for 1 WLS in a lifetime. No such exclusion for that either. So that's promising. Now I just need to contact my surgeon & go in & talk to him about a revision. I'm sure that he's done revisions, but I'm still nervous about going in & talking to him about it. I guess right now I'm sort of scared to go in & find out I don't have a chance of getting another WLS, but I know I'll never find out I CAN if I don't at least go in & talk to him about it. I also wonder how many people on here change surgeons when they get a revision. I would like to have a surgeon a little closer to home. Plus if I could get it done by a surgeon in the same town where I go to school then I could just pop in & see them if there's a problem. Maybe I'll make some calls tomorrow to some surgeon's in that town.....
Really long time!!

3 years out...
Apr 11, 2007
So it's been almost 3 years since I was banded & although I am very happy that I had this surgery I still have not reached my goal weight. My lowest weight thus far has been 210 which was last summer (that was 74 lbs down from my all time high of 284), but since then I have gained about 20 pounds. I went in a couple of weeks ago for another fill and have since still not lost any weight. I lost 7 lbs right off the bat but have put that back on. At this point I am thinking that emotionally I need to figure out why I am holding onto this last bit of weight. I still need to lose 80 lbs and right now I think I am having some issues with my band. Since my last fill I have been having a constant pain in my stomach (not in my port area), so I just sucked it up and put in a call to my surgeon. I do NOT want to lose my band but I have to admit I am a little concerned about erosion with this pain (but I always jump straight to the worst conclusion).
As far as how it's been since being banded, I have to say it's been great. Absolutely no problems (well except the ones I make for myself when I try to overeat). No complaints at all actually. I love the band and I think it's the BEST surgical weight loss solution.
Although I still have issues and still have more weight to lose, I wouldn't take back doing this not even for one SECOND, this was the best decision I could've made in my life.
So, anyway, I guess I'll post on here later after I see what the doctor says about this pain. I'm not sure if anyone will be reading this since I haven't been on here in ages, but I just thought I'd let the newbies know how it is after several years.
Will post later!
