Oh No Infection!
May 07, 2013
My surgery went as planned on monday, April 29th but after I got home, I had an incredible amount of pain that got progressively worse until I could not get out of bed to use the bathroom on sunday. Well, I called my doctor to report a stabbing, tearing pain in the center of my abdomen that was totally unbearable. On a scale of 1 to 10, it was a 22! I got to the hospital to discover after a CT scan to the abdomen that I had an abdominal wall hematoma and infection that was deep. I had a drain placed after 200 cc of brown, yucky looking infection was drawn out. The pain then went from a 22 to a 9 which was very managable. I feel lucky that I discovered the infection before an abcess occurred and I am on the road to recovery. My pouch is in good condition and I am only able to take in 1 to 2 ounces of fluid at a time but I feel well now. Hopefully I will be discharged to home tomorrow where I can recover and learn how to get along with my pouch. I discovered that my pouch does not like cold fluids and I no longer like lemonade crystal lite which I loved before my surgery. Interesting how your taste changes. Will update after I go home.
