Hi everyone!! I'm Christi! I'm 25 years old and am in the process of getting the gastric sleeve.
I was approved for surgery on Friday, January the 11th, 2013! This is the second time I have been approved. The first time I was going to the hospital in my hometown. For Insurance reasons I was told to go to a center of excellence. So off to Vanderbilt hospital I went. Went and met Dr. Brandon Williams and was very impressed with their program! Now just to schedule a few more appointments and I'll be on my way! Yay! :)
I can't wait for my life to change. I have been overweight since I was 5 years old. I have struggled ever since. I now suffer from high blood pressure, polycystic ovarian syndrome, pseudotumor cerebri, arthritis, and joint pain. I also have hidradenitis suppurativa. Which, in itself, is one of the worst things I have to deal with. My dermatologist was proud to hear I am getting the surgery as it most likely will help! Haha when I told my optometrist she was so excited for me that she was giddy and about to jump up and down. :D
My breaking point that made me decide to have surgery was when I went to universal studios in Orlando, Florida . I was able to ride every ride I wanted but the one I wanted to ride the most. I was upset, but what made it worse was my aunt rode the ride and rubbed it in my face that it was the best ride she had ever been on. And too bad I didn't get to ride. Nice, huh? :( that was the first hint of needing this surgery, besides all the medication I currently take and the medical problems that keep popping up. My gynecologist had mentioned the surgery to me and I had not heard of it. I didn't know it was an option for me. Lots of research later I found that this was the help,and the tool that I needed.
