When I was about 15 years old, I was diagnosed with PCOS. Ever since I hit puberty (around age 11) I've had a weight problem. PCOS mainly contributed to that. Almost a year ago I started to see a new reproductive doctor who mentioned weight loss surgery to me. I always thought that was for older people and people who were morbidly obese. I tried for a little while after that to lose weight on my own and it wasn't happening. I figured going to an info session about WLS wouldn't hurt. I decided to continue my journey because I knew my weight was really a problem. At 17 I was unable to go up a couple of stairs or walk down an aisle at a store without being out of breath. I knew something needed to change. I met with the surgeon and he thought that the VSG would really be able to help me and improve my quality of life. At 17 years old, I was unable to do most things that normal 17 year olds could do (play sports, run, even go up a flight of stairs). On September 29th, 2014 my life changed forever. I had the VSG done. Even in the short amount of time that I've had it done, I feel so much healthier. I finally feel like I'm getting my life back. I feel like a normal 18 year old should feel.
