I am a single mom 46 years old that works as a manager in the retail grocery business. I have been overweight most of my life and have tried every diet or diet pill known to man. I decided after much investigation that gastric bypass was my only hope. I know some people think this is the easy way out but let me tell you that this is the furthest from the truth. Surgery of this kind is hard, not just the surgery itself but the whole life change that comes with it. Is it worth it? YOU BET IT IS!! This surgery is the ticket to living a long and healthy life. My chance to see my daughter grow up, get married and have kids. My lease on a new life and nothing will stop me, not even my insurance company. Blue Cross and Blue Shield PPO, N.C. has an exclusion that even if medically necessary it will not cover any type of weight loss surgery or treatment. As ignorant as that is I decided that I had to find another option. I decided to take out a Home Equity Line of Credit and pay cash for my surgery. Out of pocket total $23,950 and worth every penny. This is my journey, my new life, and I hope it helps someone that is also considering the process of weight loss surgery.
