Hm, well for starters my name is Dina and I am 21 years old.  I've lived in Jersey City, NJ my entire life and I work in NYC.  I recently graduated from William Paterson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication focusing on Public Relations and Journalism.

And here is my story...

So...for as long as I can remember I've been dieting.  I remember being like 7 years old and being on a diet.  I was always a big kid...I can honestly say I never remember being like 120 or 130lbs and if I was, I was VERY young.  I only remember myself as being over 200lbs.  Right now, I weigh about 245, which is the heaviest I've ever been.

As a kid, I was teased and picked on about my weight, which heightened depression as a youth, but I still managed to overcome all that and maintain a healthy self esteem.  Well, at least that is what I thought.  On the outside, I was the most outgoing girl you would ever meet, but inside, I despised my looks and was always self conscious.

A few years ago, when I was a sophomore in college and 18, I decided I was going to have weight loss surgery.  I did all the research, found my doctor, attended a seminar.  I chose Dr. Trivedi in Hackensack, NJ, because I heard nothing but great things about him and the other doctors in his office.  My surgery date was scheduled for August 12, 2004.

Two nights before my surgery, my friends took me out for my "last meal."  We hung out and chatted and for a few days before that I was having serious migranes.  On the way home, my friend had to pull over on the NJ Turnpike so I could vomit.  My migrane was so severe I couldn't see and I was vomitting.  My mother called Dr. Trivedi and he called off the surgery until I received a full neurological evaluation which included a CAT scan, MRI and multiple visits to a Neurologist.  I was upset I was going to miss my surgery and knew that because of school, I would not be able to schedule it until at least December when I was off for vacation.

My neurologist gave me a migrane medicine, which he said, "might help me lose some weight."  I began working out and after about a month I lost 80lbs.  I knew this was unhealthy but I enjoyed my weightloss.  I did not eat and I was constantly working out.  My friends were worried about me.

I eventually stopped taking the medicine and in the past 3 years since I gained back all the weight I lost.  I tried to diet and excercise without the medication but it seemed almost impossible to lose weight.

I decided to try the surgery again in May 2007, after I graduated college.  I realized that it was something I needed to do now, or I would never be able to do it.  In June, I attended the seminar for the Advanced Laparoscopic Associates, where I had just been 3 years earlier.  On July 18, I met with Dr. Trivedi, and we scheduled my Lap-Band surgery for Thursday, August 30, 2007.

Today is Tuesday, August 27, 2007 and I am waiting anxiously for my surgery.  I've have a mixture of excitement and extreme nervousness...I feel like that day will never come!
