surgery day from hell

Sep 27, 2010

Had my sleeve done on Sept 22, 2010. I arrived at Tulane Hospital at 5:00 am, no one got into outpatient surgery until 6:00 am, finally in back put in gown, urine test to make sure u r not preg...... then u r wheeled into recovery to wait, around 9:00 am, I was taken into the surgery room, then put to sleep. I remember waking up and looking at clock it was 4:30pm............. all these people were standing around me, i felt and I had a tube in my nose, i felt like i was in frankensteins lab, and i was screaming in pain. I then wake back up about 45 min later gi tube out of nose, still screaming in pain, my back was killing me, i have crushed disk........ also i was on a cart (gurny)  that was only suppose to carry 200 pounds with a inch mattress on it........... still screaming in pain, nobody even looking at me and the room was filled up........ finally the nurse said hit the morphine button and everything will be ok................ no it was not. I screamed until my family was let back at about 6:30 pm...........they did not the blow up blood circulation things on my legs hooked up, the blood pressure cuff was not plugged into the machine. Finally in a room at about 8:00 pm..................... the bed as too tall for me, when i got out i had to stand on a chair to get back in the bed, the leak test the idiot makes u gulp the contrast, i was screaming in pain when that happened too, it makes ur new stomach hurt like hell, i lay on the table for a hour, then they push me in a hall, i lay there another hour, back to my room.............no iv fluid for a hour and a half, then they send a tray with koolaid jello, broth, sweet tea, and boost................. all non sugar free, i am a diabetic also. The chair in the room it is meant for people under 250 i guess, i could not fit my fat ass into it, so i had to sit in bed. Nurse kept giving me my meds without taking my blood pressure........... b/p was 92/48 and she still gave me my b/p meds, trying to give me insulin all day.............. u better not let them give you insulin unless your sugar is over 150. The pain meds are on demand only, so u only get them when u press the button. I told them i was highly allergic to adhesive.............. well attach is a pic of my back where they tape you to the operating table. I hope everyone brings someone that is highly knowledgeable about the medical field with you to the hospital. Thank god my sister that is a RN went with me. She raised all kinda hell up there. I hope my complaining and speaking to the administrators will help all the others that come after me. I am writing this 5 days after surgery, i feel good, still sore like i have been beat by a bat, getting all my protein in, just sip your liquids, cause the pain is not worth it if you gulp!!!!
