My name is Emily and I am currently a junior in college. I have been fat my entire life. The doctor's never really knew what was wrong with me as a child because I was so heavy but didn't eat much and was active. I was referred to Vanderbilt University Hospital when I was 12 and their AWESOME doctor's found out within one visit that I had PCOS, Hypothyroidism, Insulin Resistance, and Depression. Even though it is approximately an hour and a half from there I still continue to go there for ALL my doctors visits, they are great! Later in life I have found out I also have a sleep disorder. When I was 17 I was in a bad car wreck and I fractured my back. I was in a back brace for four months and put on more weight due to lack of activity. I have always been tired of my weight but recently in the past year it had gotten to me more than ever due to a serious relationship that was destroyed and left me with extremely low self-esteem. One day I was watching MTV's TRUE LIFE and I saw a procedure for the lap band. I scheduled an appointment with a bariatric surgeon at Vanderbilt. I thought I was going to choose to do the lap band but left with wanting to do the sleeve. I was really shocked to see all the benefits in health that this sleeve helps, and what progress people have seen with it. I have always been the fat one out of all of my friends and I have decided that this is my chance and something I need to do for ME. Not only for looks but for health. I feel like this will extremely help with my self-esteem and that it will be a new start for me!
