6 weeks and counting

Jul 23, 2012

Finally!!  I can say I'm glad I've had this done. The first few weeks have been really difficult. My acid reflux was so
bad that I was beginning to feel like I would have to feel nauseous for the rest of my life.  Within the past week though I can tell a big difference and a few days I have even forgotten it was ever an issue. Hunger has been no big issue, although as my calories have crept up to about 600 a day (how can so little sound like too much) I guess I am pretty satisfied.  I am beginning to want to find more variety to add into my meals.  Eggs and cheese have been a big staple but I'm afraid too much cheese could be why I've been in a stall for over a week.  I'm trying to watch that now.  Since my highest weight in January, I have lost 44 lbs. Nothing to be ashamed of!!!  Since surgery I am down right at 20 lbs.  This is definitely a journey, but one that seems to be very much worth it.

My Journey Thus Far

Jun 21, 2012

Well here is my story for information sake only.  I am still learning each day and meditating on all I've undertaken, but not making any judgements.
I had my surgery, VSG, on Tuesday, June 12th. I was first up on the schedule and ready to go asleep and wake up a new me.  I woke up fairly easily really feeling no sickness.  Saw the doc and he said surgery went very well and he had only make two holes!  Yippee for me!  Well, as the evening progressed I noticed I was sweating profusely and not feeling very well.  My bladder almost stopped working and my pulse rate bottomed out.  Doc ordered 3 pints of blood which helped some with my overall bad feeling.  They had to put in a catheter for my bladder.  They also put in a heart monitor because of the pulse rate. Next morning things went fairly slowly but I was high on morphine and very loopy Doc told them to take out the pain pump and I have very little memory of that day.  By day three I'm still not having much energy and my pulse is staying close to the 30's when I'm at rest and moving into 60's when I get up.  Later in the day I asked about if I should be getting my Thyroid med?  BINGO, I had been practically 3 days without and my body was wacked out.  Took about three days for it to get me more closely regulated.  Following heart scan and cathetar removal, I finally went home a week later on June 19th.

Was it a mistake on someone's part?  Possibly.  But I feel it had more to do with my being in there longer than a normal VSG patient and no one thought about the Thyroid med.  I'm not angy with anyone.  In fact, all the staff of the hospital were very caring and concerned about getting me where I needed to be. I have a LOT of fluid to lose now so I'm not watching the scale ( I lie, I am but I know why it is where it is).  I KNOW that in at least a month I'll see BIG differences.

Feeling the best today yet and have even had a cheese stick, YUM!   More to come.

15 days

May 27, 2012

15 days and counting until Surgery Day.  I'm anxious for it to be here.  I am a teacher and will be working up
until the day before surgery.  Things will be very busy so I know the time will go by quickly.  Just hoping I can
get everything finished up at school in time.
