WOW I can't believe I have not been on here for 2 years
Apr 19, 2010
Over the past 2 1/2 years I have done a lot of work on myself. I was and still am in therapy. Seems like being a fat kid and having divorced parents really scarred me for life, add in a severe case of PCOS and that spells obesity nightmare!!!! I know that I have made a lot of progress with my physical and emotional health!!!!!!!! I don't even recognize the person that I was in the pre-op pictures, I don't know who she is and the sad thing is she didn't know either. I do know who I am now and what I want out of life. It is a daily struggle with food though. It was so nice to not have to worry about food or obsess over dieting for the past 2 years, it appears that is now over.
So I am back on here to get support and understanding from people who know and understand where I am. I also hope to get motivation to get me back on track!!!!!
I did it!!!!!!!!!!!! I ran a 5K!!!!!!!!
Apr 13, 2008
I have been training for the past two plus months with a trainer at the gym doing training on the treadmill and then running in my neighborhood, as well as down, by the river in Harrisburg. It is so amazing, me running?!?!?!?!?! I actually am enjoying it. Making the small goals and then acheiving them. This was my New Year's resolution, to run a 5K. For the past, oh, 25 years it has been to loose weight, well since I am taking care of that I could actually make a different resolution. I am not sure where this notion of running came from but obviously from somewhere deep within me, perhaps it has been a subconcious desire of mine that I didn't even realize????
The 5K was for Autism. I have worked with children with Autism for over 8 years now and those kiddos hold a special place in my heart!!!! Not only was this an accomplishment for me but I raised $600 for our local Autism Chapter. The race was at 10:00 and then they held a walk at 12:00, many of my students and their families were there. I think the kids were pretty confused. "Why is Miss Emily at the park, she is supposed to be at school!!!" I loved seeing them outside of school and walking to help themselves!!!!
I posted some pics so you can see me in action :)
Running
Mar 08, 2008
Who would have thought that I would be running???? Not me that is for sure, and the crazy thing is I am motivated to do it!!!! I have never enjoyed running but today while I was doing it I realized my body doesn't hurt (back, knees, ankle) so I actually enjoyed the challenge!
I set the date my first 5K is April 12th, it is a run for autism research which is near and dear to my heart as I work with children affected by autism every day. So it will be very special for me to raise money to help this horrible epidemic and to achieve my New Years resolution at the same time!!!!
Wow moment not scale related!
Mar 03, 2008
I went to the park near my gym which has a path that is marked in 1/4 miles. My goal was to run it one time without stopping (1.1 miles total). Now the first time I tried running at this park was at least 2 years ago, I couldn't even run 1/4 mile due to back pain and fatigue. So I was a little nervous thinking hmm what if I can't make it around, I was worried that I was setting myself up for failure.
Well to my freakin surprise, I made it around one time without ANY pain and I felt pretty good (12 1/2 min) so I thought well let's try for 1 and 1/4 mile, made that no problem so I thought well I'll go for 1 and 1/2. When I got there I realized, heck I can make it the entire way again. So to my amazement I ran 2.2 miles today in 27 minutes without stopping and with no pain!!!!!!!!!! I am almost at my goal of 3.5 miles :) And to top it off I had a 30 min personal training session afterwards and my trainer decided to work my legs UUUGGGHHHH I actually pay her to torture me.
SO I have to say I am quite proud of my self!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6 Months post-op
Feb 22, 2008
Well this is really like 6 months and 1 week but who is counting???? I am still doing well despite this freaking stall. I am down 88 pounds I can't seem to get past 177 but I am trying not to focus on the scale too much. I am participating in a research study at
I have been having some problems with constipation. The hair loss seems to have stopped and now I have all of this new hair growth on my head (thank the lord I really thought I was going to go bald!!!!!). I got blood work done via my surgeon and all of it was good :) I have started exercising really hard 3 times a week so I am hoping that helps the scale to start moving again!!!!! My BP is great 110/66 (off meds )
Oh and I am no longer obese (I started out morbidly obese) now according to my BMI I am just overweight
That is all for now..................
5 Months down

Well that is all for now................
3 Months out
Nov 14, 2007
As far as my recovery it has been picture perfect! No problems at all. I have never thrown up, never had foamies, and I may have dumped like 3-4 times but it has been mild. I am lactose intolerant so I make my protein shakes with Soy milk and all is good. I can still eat cheese and yogurt. I have not had sugar or fried foods I do eat just about everything else (except steak). Chicken can give me really bad gas in my pouch. It is painful, I have found that taking Gas X strips helps a lot also if the chicken is moist it is less likely to happen.
I have started dating again but boy is that a pain in the a**. It was fun at first but now it is getting old!!!! Oh well, I never would have thought I would be saying that!!!!!
Do I have any regrets? Just one, that I did not do this sooner!!! It is amazing, that I am finally beating the deamon that has chased me my ENTRIE life: obesity. To finally have control over food and eating is amazing to me. As I have said to my family and friends, this has been a wild ride but I am loving every minute of it!!!!!!!

Aug 06, 2007
So I called my insurance company today around 4:45 and I got the news that I was approved.
I have to thank my program coord. who came in on Sunday to submit the request to my insurance. After a mishap with the fax machine it was delayed. So here I am 9 days away from my surgery!!!!!!!!!!! Last week I had more anxiety now I am just excited (although I know that will change). I am doing well on the pre-op diet of liquids and soft foods (oatmeal, pudding, cottage cheese, etc.) I have lost 6 pounds so far in 6 days.
