Tom B.
Hi there
Mar 27, 2010
Ankle. had a second opinion the other day. It is not as bad as first thought. Both my primary ortho and the second opinon says I should have rehab therapy. which is going to take another 6 months before I can go hot and heavy either running on jogging or anytype of high impact exercise. That blows I could have been back in 8 weeks if they did the surgery.
On another note. I haven't been on the scale for a about 2 weeks, not eating right. I suppose. But it worked. I reached GGGGGGGGOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!! 217lbs minus the 140 I started with..
How is everybody else doing. Going to put my pics on facebook soon cuz I can't figure out how to do it here. So look me up. Tom Buscio
C YA!!
Ankle and 1 year surgiversary update
Nov 10, 2009
It has been a while since I did any updates.
Life has been hectic to say the least, working all the time and barley time for the gym. Wieght has been steady, between 230 and 239 depending on the scale I.m on and wat week it is. I really think my scale is broken, it moves down and the others move up.!?
Get back to u in a minute.
Ok I'm back. I know it has been a few days since i started this.
Well in those few days. I had... dam pager brb Again Several days later. Let's see if I can get this done.
I went for my onhe year follow up Officially I am down 114#s since sugery 125# since consult. Still want to lose about 15 to 20more, If I could I would love to c 199 for about a day or 2. That wat be so nice.
Everything from the dr was good. Got to get blood work and then I can put this part of my journey in the win colum(SP)
I am seeing a specialist for my ankle, the ortho couldn't help. I have a bone that is deformed and pushing on my Achiles Tendon, causing the pain and I have Advanced Arthritis in 3 bones oin the same foot. He is advising surgery on the tendon and leaving the other alone for now. Here's the catch. It is 8 weeks out of work. I can really use that but and the big BUT. for the first 2 weeks I have to lay on my back so my foot heels. no movement wat so ever. As he puts it. eat sleep, shower and watever in the same position for 2 weeks. and he stressed no movement. then 2 weeks in a non weight bearing cast and 4 weeks in a weight bearing cast. Not happy about that. The new brace I have doesn't work as good as the boot, But I can't wear the boot to work. I am thinking about getting a second opinion, but I have a feeling it is going to be the same outcome.
Hope everybody has a Beautiful Thanksgiving. I am going to try to post before and after pics once I get home.
Take care
Tom
It has been one year since my consult.

I feel 1000000000000000000000% better. I don't recognize the person in the mirror. Still adjusting to that. The surgery which was the best thing I did in my life , wether I reach goal or not, has dramatically made my life better. I will say this until I die. I should have done it sooner and would do it again if need be.
My ankle is still screwed up, got my new brace, almost out of the the boot, got to get a special rocker for my regular shoes so the the new brace works the way it is suppose to.
I have biking my ass off since the high impact aerobic exercise bann has been placed on me. I always loved to bike even as a fat kid. I am trying to mentally prepare myself to do the American Cancer Society Bike-a-thon next year. 66 miles.
I did it this year but I was in a nice cozy air conditioned paramedic suv. I was so eager to get out and hop on somebody's bike and ride ride ride.
My thanks goes out to everybody at Barix Clinics, from Dr. Pupkova and office staff, the staff in the hospital, the support group leaders Mike and Katie( one of these I promise to get back up there). The People on OH( so many to name, it is simply amazing here, you guys rock!! My gf Lois, my friends and family.
Thank you all for giving me my life back.
6 months down and a life time to go.

Body weight 330 to 263= 67# down
Body fat % 41.6 to 35.2= 6.4%down
Lean Body %58.4 to 64.8=6.4% up
Body Fat lbs137.28 to 92.5= 44.78# down
lean Body lbs 192.72 to 170.5=22.22# down, not a good thing.
overall down 11.75 inches. waist and the chest are the biggest losers. Belly has gone down somewhat but overall could go away a lot faster.
I am wondering if I had set a too big of a goal. 140 pounds gone overall. But at the same time, I am wondering if I should set that for a year or exactly wat time frame. Obviously it is not 6 months. I need to lose about 43 pounds or so. in six months if I make it my goal weight for one year, is that a goal I can meet? I will have to mull this over....... any thoughts on this?
A big thank you to everybody here for the support, inspiration and encouragement. Could not have done this without the OH family
Losing a few pounds can really make a difference.....

This past monday night, we had our departmental SCBA (airpack) recert drill. This is something done every year. Last year it was very painful going thru the first evolution, which is crawling on hands and knees thru out a concrete floored building, with smoke and an air pack, obviously. My knees were screaming and my back was sore from being bent over, get ur mind out of the gutter. Didn't even want to think about the second evolution. Pretty bad, huh.
I wasn't really looking forward to the pain this year. To my surprise there wasn't hardly any at all. I crawed thru faster than last year and used a lot less air than last year. The second evolution was ok too, no pain in the back or knees, just tired and sweaty, could have done more but we ran out of time.
I plan riding more with the bike than walking. The othro dr said no high impact areobic exercises. I may have a damged tendon in the back of my foot. MRI scheduled for next week, so no tread mill for me, just that F&^%ing Eliptical machine. I hate that thing, makes shudder everytime I think about it. whoever invented it should be shot.
The Emperor may have a new groove, But I...

One of our former council members passed away last week. He was a good guy and will be sorely missed in our town. RIP Mr. Kelly.
I thought I had clothing to wear to the viewing which was suppose to be in my Class A fire department uniform. Well, lets just say the uniform is way to big. So, next idea wear nice dress clothes, Wrong! they didn't fit. I wasn't expecting to find that I had absolutley no clothes that fit. I thought soemthing would be close to fitting, boy was I wrong. So I was like HMMMM what am I going to do? The shirt in my avi was loose but fit when I took the pic. Now it is way to big, as seen in the pic I uploaded today. I had to borrow a shirt from one of the guys at the fire dept. and go in my Class B work uniform, which ar getting to big for me but fit.
So after the viewing I went to the thirft store to get some pants. I could use some new jeans. Had 4 pair now down to one.
They had no jeans in my current size, but now they have jeans in my old heavier size. I can't win. 6 months ago, I went there to buy jeans, all smaller sizes, now they have fatter sizes. now that i don't need them
Things that make you, HMMMMMM!

I moved into a size 44 jeans and work pants. I don't own any size 44 jeans so there is a slight problem with that. I am glad spring is coming I might beable to get away with just waring shorts, which I have in 44 and 42 and 40. I think I am coverd in that area.
I am not enjoying today. i have not had anything sbstantial food since sunday. I have to have a colonscopy oin several hours. My head is pounding from my sgar being low. I am cranky but trying to make the best of it. i can't wait for 130 to roll around so I ca get thsi over with. i will say that having RNY makes this look like a walk in the park. This will be my second in 7 moths. the first one I admit I was terrified, but I ahve this easy feeling about this one. Zofran and Propofol are wonderful drugs. I think I am going to Wendy's and getting a Baconator after I leave the surgicenter. I am so fringin hungry. grgrgrgrgr
More Random Thoughts

I was 285 and then 300 while my kids were growing up. Which made it difficult to play with them. I lost the weight 4 or so years ago. All by my little lonesome me, dropped down to 230 and had a blast playing with them. Started putting the weight back on slowly until 2 years ago and then really packed on the weight. It got so tuff just being me. Living at 358 sucked so bad. I couldn't imagine having 3 little kids and being 358. this one reason I say Timing is everything. Kids grew up and so did I. ok I grew out not up.
So fast forward to present day.I had to have RNY to get the weight off, cuz I tried here and there, it just wasn't happening by myself this time, absolutely no self motivation here, Thank God for RNY, Barix Clinics and Dr. Pupkova. It has been the best descion of my life. I have broken the 300# mark. I feel so much better now than when I was 300# 4years ago.
Shedding 58 pounds makes abig difference. I didn't think so and would have argued otherwise had I not gone thru the process. It is definetly a hands on kinda thing.
I wonder when I get to goal if I will remember what is felt like 4 years ago.
GOAL OR BUST? 220 here I come!
What I forgot to mention in this post was, my new pant size downgrading to a size 44 from a 46. I know it is not a big step but it my world. I get more clothes out of my storage and on my body. I am still in 3x shirts but i tried on a 2 x windbreaker the other day and it fit , snug but I could zipper it and it was comfortable.
Thanks for reading my dribble.
Dining expeirence

The food was outstanding. The personell was great and the atmosphere was spectaular.
One of the things that made it so great is the way they make you feel at home. I say this because I askee the server if he had ever been asked about portion sizing and had he ever seen a RNY guest card before. He didn't but he asked if I would like to talk the Chef. I said sure why not. The chef came out several minutes later and we had a very pleasant conversation with him about menus items and protion sizing. He said whatever was needed he would accomodate me.(portion size, if I need anything cooked a certain way, which made me happy. He also informed me that he had expeirence in preparing food for RNY people before. He greeted me when I was leaving and remembered my name( which in itself was cool cuz I forgot his and He was a lot busier than I was.) He asked me how everything was, which was out of this world.
I don't think I have vere been impressed with a restuarant more than this place.
so if your ever in the Cherry Hill NJ. area look em up.
