Three months already?

Mar 25, 2011

Boy how time flies!  I can' t believe it's been 3 months since surgery, and while I'm a bit disappointed in my weight loss thus far, I have finally discovered what has been hindering my progress.  It's the evil drug known as Prednisone.  Unfortunately, I have to keep taking it or I could have severe health consequences.

When I had this surgery, my doctor said he "wasn't sure" how I'd do with my weight loss.  He was confident I'd lose "some" but not A LOT.  I set out to prove him wrong.  I have never exceeded 800 calories a day and I have been hitting the gym on a regular basis.  Have I gotten my protein in every day?  No.  But I do the best I can.

So far at 3 months I haven't had any substantial hair loss and I'm praying to God it stays that way.  Overall I feel good.  I know I'm a lot healthier.  I don't crave food - although Diet Coke is another story...I yearn for it daily.  Even though I'm clearly not going to be the VSG poster child, I am happy I had the surgery.  It was worth it!

10 week updated

Mar 03, 2011

I just don't get it.  I really thought I had turned a corner and the weight was coming off.  Then I hopped on the scale yesterday and damnit I GAINED THREE POUNDS.  I have not cheated, I have not done anything to warrant this an no, it's not that time of the month because I don't get my period anymore.

Being completely pissed, I started working out twice a day (well at least for yesterday and today).  I just have a hard time understanding how I can gain weight when I'm eating the equivalent of an anorexic person.  When I think back to what I used to eat - like 3000 calories a day - and my weight would pretty much hold steady, this whole situation confuses me even more.  I can understand stalls, but gains?  A very upsetting outcome.    Hopefully this week will be better.

Very pleased

Feb 23, 2011

Today is officially the end of week 9 for me.  Had surgery on a Wednesday and today is a Wednesday so it's exact.  This morning I weighed in at 193.  WOW.  All this time I thought I was a classic "slow loser" but when I really stopped to think about it, that's not too shabby.  That is 28 pounds gone in 9 weeks, or an average of 3.11 lbs per week and I know darn well I wouldn't be able to do that without my sleeve.

I'm really starting to notice it with the way my clothes fit, but other than a couple of other people, nobody has said anything.  It's OK though...I know that I feel better, look better and am healthier, and that's what counts.  Yay me!!!!!

WTF?

Feb 21, 2011

Got up this morning and hopped on the scale.  I've been weighing every Wednesday and Saturday but for some reason Monday must be my lucky day.  194.5!!!!!!  I nearly fell off the scale in shock.  199 on Saturday and 194.5 on Monday?  Now THAT'S how I like it!

Two months down...forever to go!

Feb 18, 2011

Well, the first 8 weeks have been "interesting".  Ups and downs and frustrations and triumphs.  As of this morning I am OUT OF THE 200's!!  YAY!   I just stood there for a few minutes, waiting for the scale to start laughing and say, "just kidding - you really weight 205" but it didn't happen.  199 baby!

Although I'm grateful for the weight I have lost, I'm still a bit perplexed as to why the weight loss is slower post-op than it was when I was on my pre-op diet.  I've only lost 22 lbs in the 2 months since surgery.  With any other diet I'd be pleased with that, but it sure does seem to fall short when compared to the 24 lbs I lost in the 2 weeks pre-op as well as compared to what most other sleevers have been losing.  I guess slow and steady will have to be the way it is with me.  At least the scale is still going in the right direction - DOWN.

7 weeks post-op

Feb 09, 2011

Well, I was pleased with the outcome after my friend, the scale, judged me this morning.  Down 3 pounds this week to 203.  AMEN!  I'm sure working out has something to do with it, considering I'm hitting the gym 3 times a week and before my workout entailed couch-to-kitchen-to-couch laps.

I worked out last night and will again tomorrow.  Did really good sticking to my plan today.  I find that pre-planning my meals makes all the difference in the world.  Baby steps lol...

I'm starting to wonder when/if the women I work with (all 15 caddy grouches) will notice my weight loss.  I've noticed a couple of them staring at me oddly, but I suppose they don't want to say anything until they're SURE I've actually lost, since it would be offensive otherwise.  Sort of like when someone asks you when you're due and you're not even pregnant!

Shooting for a 2-3 pound loss during week 8.  The scale is moving slowly but I'm hoping a positive side effect of that will be less baggy, saggy skin.

6 week rollercoaster ride

Feb 03, 2011

Hmph!  I'm not even sure what to say this week.  At one point I was down to 204.5 and then gained up to 207.  I have NO idea how that could be because I've been sticking to the program and have never exceeded 700 cals a day.  I'm usually more in the 500 range.

I joined a gym and have worked out a couple of times.  It feels good even though most days I'd rather chew my arm off than exercise.  Weigh in at 6 weeks was 206 even, so I'm down a pound from my highest, but still not losing like I'd hoped.  I keep praying that one of these days the weight will just fall off.

End of week five = disappointment

Jan 27, 2011

WTF?  I GAINED 2 pounds?  How is that possible when I'm only taking in about 600 calories a day?  I guess it's time to hit the gym and get exercising.  My body probably thinks it's still in starvation mode.  Guess what body?  This is how it's going to be, so stop fighting me! Hoping for a 5 pound loss at the end of week 6.

End of week 4 results

Drum roll please...down to 207, so 3 lbs lost this week, 11 since surgery and in the first month, and just shy of 39 lbs total since my pre-op diet.

End of week 3 - ho hum...

Jan 12, 2011

Only lost 1/2 lb this week.  WHAT IS GOING ON?  Have been following the diet, and under 500 calories a day.  Getting my protein in (finally) and keeping the carbs under 40 grams a day.  I can only hope things will be better week 4.  Total loss 3 weeks out is 8.5 lbs.
