FOR ALL YOU PREOPS OUT THERE...

YES, I am now a postie and have lost the weight, but I am able to look back on things in a way you cannot. Remember, the field cannot be clearly see from WITHIN the field. With that said :

It took me forever to get my approval & to find a good doctor, almost 4 years, but it was worth EVERY second of the wait!!!!
I DO wish I would have done things differently. I love the results of my surgery, and they way I feel, etc. This operation is great!! although, when I was pre-op, even though I didn't think I was, I was so badly sensitive to things relative to my weight, etc. I worried about many things like eating in public, going places and people making comments, etc. I stopped myself from living also, and that's no good!!! Please don't do this to yourself. Life is precious, enjoy it with or without the weight!! Before my operation, I was worried about the things I could not do, but I should have concentrated on what I could do, and have enjoyed what I had instead. If you do this, you'll be doing yourself a favor, believe me.  Good luck and God bless you.. PS Look at my pointers for success down below.. maybe they will help you as much as they did me.

10-2007

I haven't updated in awhile, I am now 6 years and 4 months post i and weigh 248 pounds still and a 36 / 38 waist.  I need a tummy tuck badly and will hopefully address this in the near future.  I have regained a few times, getting back up to 270 or 280, but always manage to get back to the 250ish range,  The longer you're postop, the harder it gets, but you CAN keep it under control, just remember how you got here in the first place.  When going through your weight loss, make lifestyle changes and look long-term instead of short term success.  That one thing has helped me more than anything!  Now as for life, I still can't believe sometimes I am thin again!!! Just the fact I have succeeded is the greatest reward.  Before I always felt like a failure because I couldn't lose the weight on my own.  Actually, I have lost it on my own, my operation has given me the tools I needed to succeed!!! This is still difficult, but nothing worthwhile isn't.  I want to say thank you to my wonderful daughters who have helped me every step of the way.

My goal now, to assist other people who are where I came from.  I had many people who helped me through this process, and I want to help others succeed also.  Wish me luck and email me if I can answer any questions or just be a shoulder to lean on. I assist with a local support group and enjoy every minute of it.  I benefit from helping people and truly love paying it forward!!

UPDATE : December 2003
I now weigh 254 pounds.. my waist is a 38 or 36 and I need a tummy tuck badly!! with that it would be a 34 or so!! Can you believe it?? No way!! I feel great as far as health goes, I don't gain or lose weight anymore, but I do worry that I will go back to being overweight a lot. I need to restart my good habits in order to assure me I will not go back!!
I do have some pointers for beginners!!

1. Go to a reputable surgeon!!! Don't be afraid to stir the pot and ask questions !!

2. ALWAYS remember where you came from!!! Help others who are going through the hardships you overcame.

3. After the surgery:
a. Remember, you will eat normal again ! Make good use of your operation! There is a time window, and you will lose more weight in the beginning! Take advantage of that!!!!!!!!!!
b. Also, I gave myself 3 rewards to attain after reaching my goal! Like, doing the Richard Petty Driving experience, taking my family on a trip, etc.
c. Try to eat realistically, but try to take advantage of your operation, and initiate good habits for down the road!

July 2003
weight 248 pounds from 458 pounds, waist 40, from 64, diabetes and sleep apnea gone.

WOW! 2 years ago, I never would have believed how this surgery would work for me. I just bought a size 40 pants, and they're too big!!! In 2 years I have lost 24 inches around my waist, and still need a tummy tuck!!! I have been very fortunate to have this surgery, and to have done so well. I wish my success to all. If you're out there and feel like my profile in the beginning, there is hope!! This is it!!

Today was GREAT!!! The last time I went to a theme park, I was too big to fit into the rides.  At the time, I vowed to ride EVERY ride when I lost my weight.  Today I did it!! My daughter and I rode EVERY ride in the park and I am now officially a thrill seeker!!!  I now do things just because I couldn’t before.  Yeah I have lost my mind J But hey I wanna LIVE!!!!! And I am doing that for the first time in a long time.

7-8-2002

It has been over a year since my operation.... I haven't done as well lately, but have been losing still... I am now down about 170 pounds and 17 inches around my waist. I can't believe how much better I feel sometimes, in just a year!!

It has now been 20 months since my surgery.... I have lost a total of 212 pounds!!!! I weighed in at 248!!!! My waist is down to a 40/42 and with a tummy tuck I would be at goal!!!!

This is October 10, 2001 - It is now almost 4 months since the surgery and I've lost 98 pounds!!!!!! I have also lost 7 or 8 inches!!!!!!!

I am now 6 months postop, and my life has completely turned around! I am down 125 pounds, but more importantly, I feel great!!!! I can now do many things that I couldn't do just 6 months ago, and it keeps getting better each day. Don't hesitate to have this surgery, it's a life saver.

I had my 6 week checkup today, This operation is a miracle!!!!!!!! I have lost 65 pounds in 6 weeks, and am doing great! I now weigh 390 pounds, which is still a long way, but I know this is going to work! The ONLY problem is all the fast food commercials! I haven't had any eating problems. I can return to "normal" foods now! TO EVERYONE OUT THERE THINKING ABOUT THIS SURGERY, DO IT!!!!! THE BTC IS AN EXCELLENT FACILITY, AND THEY NEVER MIND ASSISTING YOU. I can't wait for my 3 month checkup on September 17th!

2-26-01!!!!!
After my visit on 2-2-01, I received notice that my surgery was approved! All that is holding up getting a date is my PCP, for sleep apnea.
YES! AFTER 1.5 YEARS OF JUMPING THROUGH MEDICAL
HOOPS AND TESTS, AND FIGHTING WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES,
I AM SCHEDULED FOR SURGERY ON APRIL 27TH, 2001 ! THIS
PROCESS WAS SO MUCH EASIER THROUGH THE BARIATRIC TREATMENT
CENTER! IT TOOK 1/3RD OF THE TIME THAT IT DID THROUGH THE OTHER

7-3-01
My 2 week checkup was today! My surgery was relatively painless, and no problems, although the first day, I was very thirsty! I lost 35 pounds in 2 weeks. So far so good! I am finally on the other side!

I went to The Bariatric Resource Center for my first
consultation. It went very well! I met with Dr. Viglianco. He was
very attentive, and took as much time as I wanted to answer my questions and to explain EVERY detail of their procedure, etc.
I learned more than ever with him.
DOCTOR ! TO EVERYONE OUT THERE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED A SETBACK,
KEEP TRYING, IT'S WORTH IT! I had a slight setback, and had to be rescheduled for June 19th.
