10/5/99  I'm 5'6" about 340 lbs. 40 years old. I have a 3 year old son that I would like to be able to get down on the floor and play with him. I am now searching for a surgeon in the Denver Metro area. You would think with a city this size there would be at least one!

10/29/99-- Had an appointment with my primary care physician today with hopes of getting a referral to a surgeon. NO SUCH LUCK! He doesn't approve of the surgery and suggested more weight loss drugs (Xenical etc) Does anyone know of a PCP with Prudential POS insurance who is supportive of weight loss surgery?

12/13/99 I met with my new primary care physician today---He is going to give me the referral to the surgeon!! Yippee!!!!!!!!!!

1/4/00 I had my consultation with the surgeon and discovered to my dismay that the only surgery he does is the VBG. From what I have learned through this web sight and others is that procedure is much less successful in the long run. Alas... I have to be re-referred to a surgeon who does the RNY. It looks like I am going to have a long wait because the surgeon I have decided to see is booked up through April!!!

2/2/00 Update- I have gotten an appointment with Dr Otteman for 3/3! It's amazing how phone calls and e-mails and begging work to speed up the process. Hopefully my next update will include a surgery date.

3/3/00 I met Dr Otteman today. Everyone in his office was upbeat and friendly. They must really believe in their work! They gave me a surgery date of 5/9/00. Now for my last big hurdle, I have to get insurance approval... cross your fingers, and say a prayer for me.

4/4/00 I have insurance approval!!! Pre-op appt set for 4/21 and surgery 5/9.

5/13/00 Well, I had my surgery on 5/9 and went home the evening of 5/12. I don't feel great, but on the other hand I feel SO much better than I did the day after surgery. I did notice myself getting a little misty eyed while watching a Pizza Hut commercial. Life as I knew it has changed forever!

7/5/00 I am now 8 weeks post op and I have lost 44 pounds. My biggest challenge is eating slowly so that I don't get sick!!

8/9/00 I am now 3 months post op and I have lost 58 pounds. Having this surgery was the best decision I have ever made.

9/9/00 4 months post op -77 lbs.   10/11/00 5 months post op -98 lbs It looks like I am consistently losing 20 lbs per month. 80 lbs to go!

11/10/00 6 months post op and down 113 lbs. The weight is coming off a little slower now but still going down.

1/10/01 Well, I forgot to update last month. I think I was a little disappointed when I went for my 6 month check up and realized my scale at home was WAY off (like 20 lbs!) Any way 8 months post op and I have now really lost 120 lbs.

Well now I'm 9 months post op 2/11/01 and I have lost a total of 125 lbs. (only 5 pounds in the last month) I would still like to lose another 50 lbs, but it may take a while! I am now fitting into size 18 (pre-op wearing size 32!)

3/9/01 I am now 10 months post op. I have lost 130 lbs. It's still coming off slowly, but surely. The inches are also dropping off-- 4 inches off my waist with the last 25 lbs.

4/10/01 11 months post op and I have lost 140 lbs. I joined a health club this month and started working with a personal trainer. It helps!

5/9/01 One year post op--what a year it has been! I have lost 143 pounds and I feel great. If I didn't lose any more weight, I would still consider this surgery a great success. I weigh 197 lbs and would like to get down to 160. I am fitting well in size 16. I would recommend this surgery to any morbidly obese person!

6/12/01 13 months post-op I have now lost 153 pounds. I have just returned from vacation in FL. I could never have done it before surgery. I had a great time and didn't have any problems fitting in the airplane seat etc... I was able to go to Disney World and stay there for 12 hours and have fun. Standing in lines was no problem. Life post-op is GREAT!!!!!!

7/10/01 14 months post-op -160 lbs. I am just 20 pounds from my surgeon's suggested goal weight. People are constantly asking me how I have been able to lose the weight. I sure get some strange reactions when I tell them I had surgery.

8/16/01 15 months post op -164 lbs. Almost one-half of my starting weight is gone! I bought new jeans this week in size 14! Only 16 lbs to goal!!!!!!!!!

9/27/01 16 1/2 months post op -170 lbs. I am officially one half of my starting weight. I love buying clothes now! I can go into any store and buy stuff. I don't have to go near Lane Bryant anymore!!!!!!!!!

11/12/01 18 months post op -173 lbs. Feeling great! I have surgery scheduled for 11/20 to remove the excess "flab" from my arms. Before I had my RNY I never realized that I could lose so much weight and be left with so much skin. (But I look good with clothes on!

12/10/01 19 months post op -177 lbs. Had the arm reduction surgery. Ouch!! I have a lot of numbness up and down my arms. But I'm glad to not have the flapping arms anymore. Only 3 lbs from my surgeon's suggested goal weight of 160.

1/11/02 20 months post op -180 lbs. I reached my surgeon's goal weight. I am no longer in the "overweight" category. I actually bought some size 10 jeans that fit! Weight loss surgery is a MIRACLE!!!

6/14/05 I haven't updated my profile in a long time. I am feeling good even though I have gradually re-gained about 25 lbs. I have had some plastic surgery to remove excess skin. I am glad that I had WLS. It changed my life!
