Well, it’s official! You’re on the losing side. The trumpets are blaring, the cymbals are crashing and the drums are drumming – all for YOU! I hope that all went well for you! You’ve been out of surgery now for a little over a month – YIPPIE!!! Your journey will have moments to “pause” – I’d like to impart some words of wisdom for when it does occur - remember these wise words whispered by Confucius – “It does not matter how slowly you go so long as you do not stop.” Be patient. You didn’t put it on over night, it won’t come off over night (DARN IT!)…Don’t forget to update your profile at least monthly and take lots of pictures…the transformations will make your jaw drop!!! RNY 10/31/03 – down 92 pounds!!! Good luck!

This is my first posting on this website. I just wanted to tell everyone "Thank you" who interceded for me and thought of me as I struggled immediately after my surgery. Yes, it was a struggle but God had it all under control! :o) I tried to give information about my surgery and the things that led up to it a couple of weeks ago but to no avail; so, here I am now. I would call my experiences with the surgery thus far "Infancy 101." I had to start all over eating and (of course) began with Carnation Instant Breakfast also known as "Adult Similac" for gastric bypass patients as this is our sustanance for the beginning weeks after surgery. I did have a complication that landed me in ICU. Although I had no co-morbidities, I ended up having a serious ulcer (which was not detected until surgery) which ultimately was very difficult to stop bleeding. Long story short, here are my stats: As of today (04/23/04)... 1- I am five and a half weeks post op 2- I have lost thirty pounds 3- I spent 5 days in ICU and 3 days in the regular part of the hospital 4- My presurgery bloodwork costed almost $3000.00 5- My anesthesiologist and other techs who assisted during my surgery along with my total hospital bill totaled nearly $80,000.00 6- I ended up getting 14 pints of blood from 3 different donors (imagine MY fear - I never received blood products before nor had I ever donated blood!!) 7- I return to work on 04/28/04, so that makes 6 weeks out of work 8- I am eating almost anything I want right now which includes soft, moist poultry and fish - noodles - crackers and nearly all dairy products 9- I have 10 different pills to take daily 10- I FEEL GREAT!!!! :O) I have come to know a lot of people since this journey began on a snow-day off from work in February 2003. I am greatful to God because I had a support system that was second to none through this entire experience. Everybody played a different part. My four year old daughter was my inspiration and no matter how rough it got, her smiles, humor, hugs and kisses always brightened my day. I could go on and on naming those who supported me and state what they did but I don't want to leave anyone out. Let's just say as a five day patient in ICU who spent 60%-75% of the day sleeping, I had nearly 40 visitors (that I know of)! I had HUNDREDS of phone calls and messages throughout my hospital stay and first week or two home. I have never felt SO loved. I tried to go through this surgery with a limited number of people knowing what I was doing but when the word got out that I was in ICU, that was all she wrote. People came in droves!! I thank God, though, because that let me know that somewhere along the line, I had touched someone's life and they were now concerned about mine. Well, these are the only updates I have.... Until next time!!
