Surgery day and post op days 1 and 2
Mar 25, 2011
Surgery day:
the surgery went well. I had a panic attack waking up from anesthesia & morphine has kept me woozy & nauseas so it's been difficult to get up & walk. I've got this tens unit thing that looks like a watch sending pulses through my wrist & hand to help with the nausea but not doing much for the woozies! Pain isn't too bad, mostly it's the remaining gas around my stomach & chest causing discomfort. The best way to relieve it is to walk & move the gas out and burp but I'm too dizzy. I've got super dry mouth & can't drink anything until after they do the leak tests in the morning so for now I can only swab my mouth with water. I was told that when I'm off the morphine drip & able to start sipping liquid proteins then my nausea & dizziness will subside and I can walk about easier. They've been great about prevention treatment for blood clots with blood thinner shots in my belly & the leg compresses that feel like a massage! Back to sleep now to be rested for my leak test in the morning & finally being able to walk around comfortably!
Post op days 1 and 2:
I had a pretty hard day yesterday. My swallow test took a long time because I'm extremely swollen. I had to have a hiatal hernia removed as well which contributed to it. My energy has been low because I've only been getting IV fluids and not much of protein and vitamins. They kept me another night due to all of this. I've been having uncontrollable shivers off and on all night probably because I'm so weak and a bit of nausea. I did finally switch over to oxycodone pills instead of the morphine drip and that's helped in clearing my head. I'm feeling less swollen this morning so I'm doing better getting the protein drinks down, working on a 1oz shot over a period of 15 minutes. Sip, burp, wait, sip, burp etc. Hopefully I can go home today and not get dehydrated without the assistance of IV fluids.
