Gotta get into a routine

Dec 26, 2010

It's been more than a month since I started my pre-op diet....and today is exactly 3 weeks after my surgery.

I don't have any surgery pain anymore. I do get tired in the afternoon, and my skin still itches like crazy....but other than that, I'm good.

Now, I need to get an eating and exercise routine in place.

Sometimes I want to eat....but most of the time after a bite or two, I'm just done. And I'm really forming an aversion to protein shakes. I'm just sick of them. I do have some soy protein isolate powder....I'm going to start mixing it in my crystal light and adding it to my food, I guess. Right now, I just can't eat enough to be able to stop using it. I don't like the taste or the texture, but I know I have to have it.....so I need to just measure out my daily amount and sprinkle it on everything until it's used up. I need to do better on getting that 60g minimum of protein in every day.

I also need to do better on getting in more fluids. Somedays when I get busy, I don't get anywhere near the 60-70 ounces a day I'm supposed to have. I need to fill up my cup and watch the ounces. I know keeping hydrated is very important and I need to make sipping my water a priority. I get caught up in stuff at work and I just forget to drink, and to eat.

So, today when I get to work, I'm going to sit down and work out a schedule for my meals and fluids and try to stick as closely to that schedule as possible. Pretty soon the schedule will become a habit, and I won't have any more days where it hits 5 p.m. and I remember I haven't eaten since 11 a.m. That's just not good!!!

I also need to get up and walk more until I get approved to go back to the gym (another 2 weeks). My husband drops me off at our shop just before 8 a.m., but we don't open for business until 1. Every hour or so I need to get up and take a walk around the block. Right now, that's as far as I can go....I'm still at 350 pounds. But even though I can't walk a mile yet, I can walk the distance I can go several times during the day. It's a good break from work, a good stretch of the legs, and I need the exercise. I can't wait until I can go back to the gym and exercise in the heated pool there. But I'm still a few days away from that. For now, I have to chunk my way around the block in the cold. I think I will add those walks into my schedule and try to do it at least 6 times a day.

I also need to schedule my 1 month labs with my PCP. I have my 1 month follow up appt on 1/13. I'm really curious to see how that all comes out the first time!
