The Breast Cancer 3-Day

Mar 21, 2009

Well, I did it.  I registered for the 3-Day to be held Aug 14-16 this year.  I had been thinking about this for a long time and the urge kept growing, and that gave me confidence that I CAN do this.  I'm more worried about raising the $2,300 I need rather than me getting across the finish line!  I need to up the miles per day that I walk and with the good weather we've been having, that won't be hard to do.  What a goal!  What a ride!

I'll be 4 months out tomorrow....it doesn't seem like it, but it does seem like it.  I've lost 68 pounds, but for some reason I have a stall every so often, nonetheless, I'm happy with where I'm at!  I'm getting better at judging portion size by sight and rather enjoy making single serving meals.  My nemesis is making large quantities (always cooked for a lot of people) and then graze on it.

I tried eating some bread, but that didn't sit too well with me, so I'm putting that off for a while, and beef doesn't feel too good in the tummy either.  Since I've had surgery I've found that I like fish!  Whoda thought??  Tilapia and salmon.....yum!

Every time I pull something old out of the closet  and it fits, it's like Christmas morning over and over again!  It's a wonderful incentive.  Life is good!

I saw Dr. Bacal last Monday, the 9th, and he was pleased with how I've been doing.  My labs are all good, but my weight loss is a little on the slow side.  I'm still having trouble getting in 800 calories a day, but he says just 800 a day is OK with him.  I will be three months out tomorrow.  It doesn't seem like it.

It's amazing how much better I feel.  I remember when I first tried walking after surgery that I wanted to get in a 20 minute walk, but pooped out after 15 minutes.  Now I walk 2-1/2 miles daily carrying hand weights.  The dr wants me to increase not my time walking, but how far I walk within the 40 minutes.  I'm working on it!

At last I seem to be getting in my groove with the whole eating, drinking, 30-minute wait issue.  I ended up setting the timer on the stove to keep me on track.  Just waiting for it to become second nature to me.

Jan 19, 2009

19 Jan 2009 - I have been discouraged lately. It's been 4 weeks since I lost any weight. About 10 days ago I contacted Lindsey, Dr Bacal's nutritionist and she tweaked my diet. I was taking in only 280-600 calories a day, a terrible mistake!  I increased my caloric intake to 800 calories a day and increased my exercise, and I've gained 2 pounds!  This is driving me crazy!
