1 Week Post-Op

OH YEAH!!!
So I had my first post-op appt. yesterday. 30lbs lost in 11 days!
OMG I have lost 55 lbs so far. People say they see it but I don't. My clothes are sure looser though. I don't know what I'm gonna do about that. I'm so broke a new wardrobe is not an option at the moment. Hopefully, I'll make it through with the wardrobe I have for a couple more months. Anyway... I'm so excited.

So here I am sitting in my dorm room on spring break recovering...

Where to start?
First off let me say the gas pain is CRAZY on a scale from 1-10 it was a 15. BUT the morphine drip takes care of it in about 10 mins. Also the sooner you walk around the better. It gets the gas moving. You'll feel much better once you pass the gas. trust me.

The hospital was ok. The first night I was in there my night nurse was psycho. I don't even know why she is a nurse. She didn't care at all. She had moved the tape on the IV and a few hours later the IV had shifted and all the fluid was pumping into my hand and not my vein. I had to push the call button like 3 times for her to fix it. Then when she did i thought she was going to kill me from all the bubbles she was letting in. That was scary. Other than that, the hospital stay was ok.
All of the nurses were a bit slow but they had a lot of patients so I give them the benefit of the doubt.

The was a woman in the room with me who I had met at pre-surgurey testing so that was cool. We had talked a bit on that day and I knew she was having surgery the same day as me so It was nice to go thru that with someone.

Tolerating the fluids took a little while. I threw up once in the hospital. I think it was leftover blood in my stomach. Once I threw up I felt much better and I was better able to handle the fluids.

I started at 1oz and hour for four hours then 2oz and hour for four hours up until 4oz over an hour for the rest of my life. I'm TRYING to keept that up. It is REALLY hard. especially with the protein shakes. They leave me SO full I just can't bring myself to drink them as much as I have to. But I'm doing my best.

Overall, I feel great for someone who had major surgery less than a week ago. I'm being really good about my vitamins and taking all of my pills like I should be. I do feel a bit sluggish and weak. But I figure I'm only getting in 500 calories (and that's on a good day) so I guess that is to be expected.

I have no concept of how much I weigh yet. I wont find that our until my first post-op appointment, but I'll tell ya.. my ankles haven't seemed so bony in a long time. Its hilarious.

I'll update soon.

My freakout

Apr 01, 2007

I am freaking out a little. Yesterday, I went bonkers on my boyfriend over a keychain someone gave him. He knew it wasn't about the keychain and so did I. I just started tearing and couldn't stop for like 15 mins.

I think that I was so concentrated on getting everything done to have the surgery that I never really thought about the surgery itself. I was so worried about getting all my clearances and losing the weight I needed to lose that the surgery was more of an abstract thought in the future that I didn't need to concern myself with yet.

Also, yesterday was the first day of my liquid diet. It was my first actual day without eating real food and THAT was hard also.

But no worries, I had my little freakout, my boyfriend calmed me down and I am MUCH better today. I took my laxative which isn't so bad so far. I am still nervous, but more excited at the new journey I have ahead of me.

I spoke to my surgeon's office today. Lawrence is THE MAN! (he takes care of the insurance process) Lawerence said he submitted my case pending one more report they needed (PFT's). He said the insurance company said they will approve once they receive that report! OMG. I'm so excited I can't stand it.
