2 years and counting

Wow...I think it might have to be a requirement that we not only keep our blogs/profiles, but that we read through them at least once a year!  I just read my "old" profile from start to finish and it really brought me back to how amazing this journey has been.  Not only seeing the misery in my "before" pics on there, but also reading through all the work I put in.  That damn 6 week diet after surgery SUCKED man!!  Plus all my frustrations about losing weight in a particular amount of time.  I totally understand why I was frustrated, but I also get all the supportive posts I got from old timers who knew that it was all going to work out for me in the end and not to stress.

Anyway...I'm trying to post a little bit back on the board again because I just want to feel more reconnected to all you guys.  I couldn't have done it without you!!

Long long time...

Mar 25, 2008

It has been FOREVER since I've posted I know!!  Crazy how this journey takes us into an actual LIFE...lol.  However, I still miss this crazy OH group that took me through one of the biggest and best decisions I've ever made in my life.

Let's see, my two year surgiversary was 1/9/08.  I'm down to 178 pounds, which is a total weight loss of 137 pounds.  I still would like to get down to under 170, and at least I've gone DOWN the past few months (I had gone up a couple pounds before that and had to really get back on my game).

I have a new boyfriend and right now he and I are doing well...I would LOVE to have plastic surgery, but right now the money issue is not in the cards for me.  Maybe someday soon (At 35 I think I have a few good years left in me to feel good about my body and not only feel cute when I'm in clothes!!)

Well, that's about it...hope all is well with everyone here!  And again, BEST DECISION EVER MADE!!!

Another reason to love WLS

Nov 16, 2006

So, if there are not already enough good reasons to have WLS (so far I have not come up with a bad one!), having mine probably helped in extremely early detection of a genetic condition I have called Hereditary Hemochromatosis (basically, the opposite of Anemia as I have too much iron being stored in my blood, which can result in iron buildup depositing in my liver, kidneys, heart, etc., and can cause organ problems and failure if not treated). I am not much of a doctor person, and pre-WLS would rarely go, even for my annual physical. Now, of course, I was referred to a great, very thorough doctor who insists on running my labs every three months, thus detecting my super high iron levels and sending me off to a Hemotologist (blood doctor).

Lo and behold, I got my results today...I have the genetic mutation that causes this disorder. It is something that will be manageable through phlebotomy (basically taking my blood once a week), and constant monitoring throughout my lifetime. My Hemotologist is thrilled that we caught it as early as we did, due to the labwork I was doing due to having WLS. This disease usually isn't detected, especially in women, until they are in their 50's (I'm 33)!

Therefore, once again, thank GOODNESS for this life saving surgery, genetic disorder and all!!
