Week One- Surgery Date 1/21/14 - HW 241 SW 226

Feb 09, 2014

Well, I survived, and isn't that our greatest fear. I was in John Muir Concord and I felt very well taken care of.   The lady next to me in pre-op was having her toe removed due to diabetes...made me glad I was doing it!   I think the hospital waking you up every hour to take your temp, or give you drugs, or whatever the heck they were doing all night long, was the toughest part.  In the hospital they focus on getting you to drink.  They tell you to take little sips.  I'm a gulper so I had to really focus.  They give you these little 1 oz cups that are helpful so I bought some plastic shot glasses at the grocery store and just kept filling them all week long.  You can drink one about every 5 minutes.  There really was not that much pain.  They gave me a botton to push for pain killers and I didn't push it until the second day after they kept me up all night.  I wanted to sleep.  I was scared to drink but did it and it went fine.  I burped/hiccup'd a little.  They said that is from taking in too much at one time.  I'm learning to sip.  So far so good.
