The losing is continuing! Let's see....since my last post, I have had my gallbladder out, gotten through a very busy summer and have met more OH people! I got a small fill last week and it took me to 3.8 (he tried 4.0 but it didn't work out so well) and the 3.8 seems to be doing well. I'm so close to hitting the hundreds that I'm speechless!

Down, Down, Down!!!!

May 31, 2007

So I got a fill on April 30. Dr. Maese (yummy!!!) took me from 3.4 to 3.8. I promptly threw up the barium that I had swallowed for the fluro and so he took me down to 3.6. In that time, I went from 232 (I had gained 10 pounds) to 211.8 (today). So, the tool works. I'm at great restriction. I mean GREAT! Some days it is REALLY, really, REALLY tight-like all of last week. Some days, like today, I can eat small portions like I'm supposed to. Maybe hormones have something to do with it....stress? Maybe I should spend some time on the Lap Band board. I really LOVE the TMB. These Texas folks are so dang funny that I almost cannot stand it. Everyone has such a great sense of humor....it's like when one of us wants to goof off for the day, everyone else will play along!!! I have promised my people on the TMB that when I hit Onderland, I'm planning a trip to the Coast --- The Texas Coast - Galveston!!! Watch girls, I'm only 11.8 pounds away!!!!! Here I come!

I had another fill last Thursday. I just haven't been able to get the scale to move and I was being able to eat a lot more than I should at a single sitting - which was usually evening time. So I went in and Dr. Maese took me to 3.6 which makes me nervous cause I feel like that is too tight. I threw up a lot over the weekend so I went back today to see it under flouro. It's fine. They say not too tight so I'll try a few more days with it like this. From Thursday to today, though I have lost 9 pounds. I was 232 on Thursday and now I'm 223. So at least I'm past my plateau?!
I need to exercise more and get the water in like all of us. But all I can do is work on it everyday!

I have needed a fill for a couple of weeks now. However, I waited until after the holidays because I didn't want to have to worry about sliming or any of the other ickyness! So today, my band is filled to 3.3ccs. I have been stuck for a while at 228-230 so I am hoping to see the scale move now! I will try to increase my protein as well!!!!

I went for my 6 month check up today and was praised by Dr. Barker and staff for my success thusfar. I was able to share successes and opportunities for improvement and they were totally supportive. It was an awesome appointment.
I like the emerging format on OH and I really am pleased with you cyber friends out there. I don't know any of you in person but it sure is cool to share daily "stuff" with you all. The struggles and the succss! You all celebrate everything and I appreciate it!

So I began my journey back in October with a visit to Dr. Fred Maese, a cardiologist and pioneer of Lap band surgery in Dallas. He is quite impressive and his staff, in no time, had me set up with a surgeon, cardiac clearance, psych and nutritional consults. I was ready to send everything in to insurance by December and I chickened out. I raced back to LA Weight Loss and signed up for 20 more weeks thinking, foolishly that I could do it on my own.
In February, I hit 270 pounds and I had had enough!!! I called Dr. Barker's office and said, "Let's GO!" After a long fight with my company over a change in insurance policy (too long to tell here), I was approved. One EGD later and a second surgery consult later, I was scheduled for my lap band on 4/21/06.
I had my Lap Band on Friday, 4/21/06 with Dr. Barker.I was 271.5 prior to surgery, 266.7 on my day of surgery. Everything went fine and I was back at work just 4 days later. Hard to believe but I had no problems. I think I am one of the lucky ones!
5/5/06
Two weeks later and I have lost 20 pounds from my heaviest weight! This really works doesn't it?!
5/15/06 I am now a little over three weeks out. I'm still down 20 pounds as my loss has flatlined. I know from reading posts on the message boards that this is normal. I have my first fill scheduled for May 25!! Yipee!
6/10/06
The fill was 1.6 ccs and no big deal...it didn't hurt and unfortunately, it didn't help. My next one is June 15. I really can eat anything as long as I chew well and don't go too fast. I have gained and lost the same 3 pounds for the past month. What's up with that?

My second fill was last Thursday - June 15. I am up to 2.6ccs. This one worked!!! Not only have I lost that 3 pounds for good, but I'm down 3 more! I think I understand the "sweet spot" that everyone writes about!!! I'm really happy this week! I love this band!

Shame on me for not keeping this a little better updated. I will be 4 months out tomorrow. I am now exactly 40 pounds lighter than I was 4 months ago and it has gone quick! I had a third fill in July that took me to 3.1 ccs. After 9 days of vomiting and major reflux, I figured out that I needed some relief. I'm at 2.9 ccs now and couldn't be happier. It seems as though I'm really where I should be. Two weeks ago, I started waking up really, really early every morning--like 5 a.m. (very early for me). My mind just spins and spins so there is no hope of one more hour of sleep. I made up my mind that 5 a.m. is my time to exercise. I just jump out of bed and lace up the shoes and go for a long power-walk. I am walking 1.5 - 2 miles a day and it seems like th pounds are just melting off now. It's amazing what a little exercise will do (did that just come from me??!). So life is grand at this point. The summer was busy as we celebrated my 20-year class reunion and it's been a blast catching up with so many old and dear friends. I am becoming more active on the Boards here and I'm liking the commraderie. Thanks for everyone's support!
