Well here is my story not unlike so many others-I have been overweight since I was a little kid and remember my pediatrician telling my mom that she needed to watch what I was eating starting at about age 9. Over the years I slowly became obese, had some success in high school with a nutritionist, and was a decent weight in college (I am 5’ 3” and at that time weighed about 160). Well long story short, tried all of the diets (weight watchers at least 10 times) and have slowly but surely packed on the pounds. At 35 years old I am now 226 (a BMI of exactly 40). I have thought about having surgery for a long time, but was worried that I would not have the support of my friends and family. Well my sister brought it up to me a few months ago and encouraged me to check it out (she has lost 85 pounds and kept it off through Weight watchers). She has been so supportive and anyway, with her encouragement I began the journey of checking it all out. I have spent so many hours on the internet finding out all I can and I am ready to move forward. First step is to go to a WLS seminar. I spent loads of time researching the surgeons in my area and have chosen Dr. Michael Snyder. I will attend his seminar on 2/23/06.
