My story is not really unfamiliar. I have always been a big girl. Even in high school, when other girls were thin, I was a size 16/18. At the time, I was walking 4 miles a day, and I was active in theater and on a pep squad.

I have dieted almost all my life. I went to my first Weight Watcher's meeting at 13. I've done doctor led diets, fitness trainer routines, Optifast, Medifast, diet pills, etc. I'd lose 30 lbs, gain 20 back, lose 10, gain 15, etc etc etc. I first looked into weight loss surgery 5 years ago, but I wasn't quite ready.

Three years ago, I tore some ligaments in my ankle. I had to have surgery, and was fairly laid up for nearly a year. I packed on another 30 pounds over the two years following my ankle surgery, and I've been unable to make it budge at all.

Finally, I decided I was done fighting my body. Surgery was the tool I needed, and I was ready to have it done. Unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover weight loss surgery, so I'm having to cash pay. I truly believe it will all be worth it.
