Where has the time gone???
Dec 11, 2010
Gosh I am at a lose for words...that never happens :) I guess I should start by letting you all know who I am?
My name is Karilyn but my friends call me Kari.
I am a SAHM to three young children ages 1, 2 and 5. I am 29 years old
I am married to a wonderful man going on 7 years now!
I struggle with my weight and have for over 13+ years.
I have tried all the fad diets out there with no success.
I want to have surgery as it is the only way I will be able to shed the pounds.
I currently weigh in at 313+lbs and am 5ft 4in. tall
I am looking for advice on the Kaiser procedure. I have heard they don't like to okay the bariatric surgery very often. I do meet the BMI requirement, though only recently has my blood pressure started to be elevated. I have been diagnosed as pre diabetic with an A1C of 6.6. I do have asthma and have had knee and back problems for some time. I had an ACL replacement in the past. My labs look okay but I do have hi triglycerides (high bad cholesterol and low good cholesterol) as well as low potassium (It was only 3.3 and apparently 3.5 is normal so not too low) maybe that is why I have heart palpitations? But other then all that I seem to be in okay health. :)

November 23, 2007 ~ Sleep Study Results
Nov 23, 2007
Dr. Called at 9:30 this morning to tell me the results are back from the sleep study and yes I snore :)... but I do NOT have sleep apena!! Yeah so no CPAP or anything.
Here is what they had to say about me :)
TOTAL SLEEP TIME: 2.7 hrs
Prolonged sleep latency. Sleep efficiency was very poor. All stages of sleep were seen. REM sleep was slightly reduced. No evidence of sleep disordered breathing or other sleep pathology although tech did note some flattening with arousals that did not meet RERA criteria.
Arterial Blood Gas test from 11/1/07 was all normal too!
November 7, 2007 ~ Sleep Study
Nov 06, 2007
Well I had my over night sleep study and got home earlier today. It took me around 6 hours to get too sleep. I am sure I drifted in and out off sleep but not any longer then seconds!! The sounds of traffic on the street (right outside my window) really started to get to me, and the brightness of the room was hard for me to adjust to. I wish I would have asked my Dr. for Ambien and had I known I would have had such a hard time I would have brought a sleep mask and ear plugs.
But let me back up and tell you what to expect if you are getting ready to have a sleep study…I got to the lab at 8:30 last night and was escorted to my room around 8:45. A simple room with a bed, TV, Fridge, and Microwave. I put on my PJ and got ready to be hooked up to some 20+ electrodes. I had wires every where…my head still have the sticky goop residue from the electrodes. In addition I was also attached to an EKG and a snore mic. And Finger O2 sensor.
Once I was all hooked up the tech ran thru some tests to make sure the electrodes were hooked up correctly…she asked me to do things like: With just your eyes look left, look right, wiggle my right foot, wiggle my left foot, hold my breath etc…
I was told that it would be best to sleep on my back which I tried doing for the first 4 hours but when it wasn’t working I rolled to my side and OOPS unhooked one of the wires so the tech looking after me had to come in and fix that. Then after 6 hours of trying to fall asleep I asked if I could get a sleeping pill and they said they don’t have meds there (it has to be prescribed by your Dr. prior to coming to the sleep lab.) I continued to try to fall asleep tossing and turning all night…I just could not get comfy with the wires and worrying I was going to unplug something again. Finally I hit pure exaction and crashed out. The next thing I remember was the Tech waking me up at 6:30am. I still feel like I did not sleep the whole night but hey the test is over and I think I passed since she never needed to hook me up to the CPAP machine.
November 5, 2007 ~ Called Sleep Lab & GUESS WHAT!!
Nov 05, 2007
Well I called the sleep lab and left a message saying who I was and that I had a Feb. 2nd over night sleep study appointment but was hoping to move it up if they had any cancellations and GUESS WHAT!!! I got a call from Terri at around noon asking if I would be able to go in for an over night sleep study TONIGHT at 8:30pm. I took it of course and it could not have worked out (schedule wise) any better then this! WOW THAT WAS FAST! They really must get 3-5 cancellations a week like they said.
November 3, 2007 ~ Called Sleep Lab
Nov 03, 2007
Wonder if they are open on the weekends??
I called the sleep lab to see if they had any cancellations…not sure if they are open on Saturday if they don’t get back to me I won’t call tomorrow but wait until Monday instead
November 2, 2007 ~ Sleep Lab Appointment
Nov 02, 2007
3 MONTH OUT>>>>
I called the sleep lab at 7:30 this morning because that is when they open and I figure this way they will get back to me today and guess what they did…I have a over night sleep study planned for February 2nd…Goodness they were not kidding when they said it would be 3 months out. Terri who schedules the appointments told me that I could call each day and see if there had been any cancellations so I plan on doing just that, I would have liked to have the study over and done with by the time on went for my one on one with Brenda and Julie.
