Wow well I didn't think that insurance would have approved so quickly!!! I do have blue cross blue sheild (federal, basic, PPO) and I've heard that things move quickly through them.

So today I called Pam and she scheduled a date for me which is Monday, August 23rd, 2010 at 1:30pm which means I probably have to be there at 11:30am. I'm like I have so much to do to get ready for the big day!!! Its crazy that I went to the seminar on June 12th and here it is July 8th and I have a surgery date already!!!! Dag time flies. That was less than a month!!! Well actually hold up!!! It only took a week!!! I had my first consultation with Dr. Moazzez on July 1st!!! I just got my date TODAY!!!! talk about a quick turn around....

Oh and the 390$ covers all of my nutritionist appointments before and after the surgery!!!! Thank goodness!!!! so I am happy about that!!!

So I'm upset..... Today I called Dr. Moazzez office to confirm my appointment with the nutritionist tomorrow.  Tell me why the lady who answered the phone was like OH by the way did they tell you about the $570.00 fee for the nutritionist.  I'm like NO was I going to find out when I got there or was someone actually going to tell me. What about insurance? They don't cover it!!! I was about to faint that is way too much money!!! And if you are going to charge that much why not get the insurance to cover it!!! I'm just like damn... and they know you want to have the surgery so its not like you gonna say no, I'll pass and just keep my stomach they way it is....the size of a football!!! So I have to pay $180.00 for 1 freakin hour with the nutritionist. Then once you get your insurance approved for the surgery you have to pay another $390.00 for a 2 hour weight loss class.... I'm like are you kidding me!!! All of these folks on this website and not one of them mentioned oh by the way if you choose to go through this doctor... its gonna cost you $570.00 dollars. Granted the people are nice and the surgeons do a great job...lemme find out imma have to do some price shopping to get gastric bypass....like foreal tho....really????

So far this is coming up to $675.00 OMG I see why not everyone can get weight loss surgery... don't we have some type of fund here for people who cant afford it...

Well I guess its not too much compared to how much insurance will be covering which will be everything. I'm just surprised that they can not cover at least have of the nutrition fee etc or where can I find a nutritionist that my insurance covers.

Hi everyone;

So I had my first meeting with my surgeon, Dr. Moazzez on Thursday, July 1st and I must say he is really nice!!! Extremely nice and pleasant. I was really nervous but I went in and the nurse wieghed me and  I came up to a whooping 256 pounds and I am 5' 5" and my BMI is a 42. I know I dont look it in my pics or in real life but that is just the way I am built...My blood presure isnt high thank goodness. So now I have to take some routine tests like an EKG and chest x-ray as well as blood work.  So I didn't get a date yet but I am hoping, with the way things are moving so fast that maybe I will be able to have the surgery in early to mid August!!!

Next Wednesday I do have an appointment with the nutritionist to talk about good eating habits and past eating habits as well as to come up with a plan to get me on the healthy eating and living track.  Also Dr. Moazzez wants me to lose 10 to 15 pounds in order to shrink the liver so that way it wont get in the way of them cutting the stomach etc.

Well the good thing was that my co-pay was only 30 dollars HEYYYY!!!! I can deal with that!!! I really hope I can get this done and over with because my boyfriend is in the military and he's away right now and he should be back around Christmas time. Boy could you imagine the look on his face about 3 to 4 months out of surgery and I open the door looking like a brand new woman LOL OMG!!! He already knows I am going to have it and is very supportive of it. My best friend is excited for me!!!

Hi everyone!!!

So if you've read my last post I'd made tree appointments to get things started with the proceedure.  Today I had my psychiatric evaluation and I was soooo nervous lol.  I was hoping that she didn't think I was crazy lol You know we can all get a lil crazy sometimes lol. Well the lady, Judy was really really nice; we just talked about my weight history and how I became the size that I am.  I believe the session lasted about an 1 1/2. After that she approved me and was going to call who i am assuming is either the health insurance company or the doctors office to tell them that she approved me. Isn't that great!!! We can now get this thing started hell yeah!!!

So my next appointment is with Dr. Moazzez next thursday!!! I am nervous about seeing him too. I have to fill out all of those forms on the website it's like 8 pages long. I will probably fill them out sometime next week. I am begining to think that things WILL go according to plan. It was a bit expensive though I wont lie about that. Even though my co-pay was only 25 dollars Judy did charge a 50 dollar report fee. She gives sends the report to the surgens office and to the insurance company.

Hello everyone! :)  I dont want to give out my name on here so you can call me Miss. Tigger. I am 25 years old and I suffer from obesity.... I am 5'5'' and I weigh 248 although I dont quite look it... trust me the weight is there. I am a college graduate of Penn State University and I majored in International Politics and French.

My best friend in the whole world had gastric bypass 14 months ago. She is 5 feet tall and she weighed 250 pounds. She now weighs 135.... needless to say that's all the proof I needed as well as inspiration of course. She looks great and feels great. I'll tell ya the 3 things she said to me that made me really want to get gastric bypass

1. She can run and run up flights of stairs without being out of breath (I mean really run without all the extra fat jiggling to catch up lol)
2. She can wear stiletto heels without her feet hurting!!! (OMG WORD!!! for real!!! where can I sign up lol)
3. She said that it feels good to wear normal clothes.

So yes!!! Many would say I used my friend as a guinea pig.... and i will say you're right!!! LOL She's my friend and I love her; I supported her decision when she told me that she wanted to have it...actually I was one of the only friends who accepted it and I had her back the whole way through.

As for me I am a happy person I wear a size 18 and I am one of those folks who dont see themselves as being "that" big. I am an attractive person I love myself however I am young and I do not want to have a serious disease when I get older like high blood pressure or diabetes which run rampid in my family. I really would like to have the surgury because I want to be healthy and I would like to break the mold of overweight folks in my family as well as in the African American Community.  It's time that we help our brothers and sisters who suffer from this horrid disease....we have to break the cycle this is killing us and we've got to help stop it.

So This weekend my best friend L (yeah I'm going to initial her name L) and I went to the weight loss surgery seminar at the same hostpital she went too... I must say it was great very informative and the best thing about it is they've had 0 mortalities which was like HELL yeah!!! can I get this done tomorrow!!! LOL Well today I made my appointment with the doctor that L had to do her surgery and my first appointment is July 1st at 2:30pm I know I know that's quite a while to wait.... but there is some biatric conference that's going on so I have to wait. Which is fine with me... The receptionist was nice enough to let me make an appointment for the psych lady named Judy for June 24th at 3 so I am excited about that. And I made the nutritionist appointment as well today!!!

Needless to say I am feeling quite great that I was at least able to make these appointments today :) it really made me feel like I am going to go through with this :) I am so glad to have the support of my friend at this time!!! She is going to be my gastric bypass buddy!!!

I hope to blog this journey and hopefully I will make a video blog on youtube because I feel like there are not enough black women who document their weight loss so that we can be a model to other black women or minority women who would like to loss the weight as well.
