Update-05/25/12

May 26, 2012

I feel like I have been on an island by myself.  I have struggled tremendously with extreme malnutrition due to 75cm common channel.  At first after coming home life seemed natural and wonderful but a year after my revision I was noticing side effects of the malnutrition but didn't know that at the time.  I was chasing my tail with all these different issues that were popping up...loss of hair, thinning of the skin, bleeding, burning mouth, skin sluffing from inside my mouth, nausea, weakness, tired, sudden drops in weight.  None of the doctors in this area were aware it was all related to malnutrition.  I ended up with major swelling of the abdomin down to my toes, wasn't able to manage stairs, was only eating broth, I presented with an odor that was difficult for people to deal with and finally wound up in the hospitall on TPN.
I got my blood levels up to almost normal after 3 mos of TPN but after having the picc line removed a month later blood work was declining again.  With my blood levels up the odor disappeared but then started to be bad again.
I had not been on OH for a long time because I was fighting too many fronts.  Since I have come back in desparation I have discovered (thanks to a lot of help here) my common channel was too short and was referred to Dr Roslin.  He specializes in bariatric revisions and is closer (NY) than going out west.   On June 13th I am scheduled to see a psych, a nut and Dr Roslin.  I am hoping he will make my channel longer but not too long, maybe 100 or 125cms.  I have the ability to eat alot of food all at once and am concerned about the sleeve being too large at the exit port into the intestines.
I'm am getting nervous that I may not be able to be helped.  I can't live with this odor, it prevents me from having a social life and I have lost time at work because my co-workers can't deal with the odor.  One of them even says it stings her nose.  I can't smell it so I can only go by what everyone else says.

Surgery Time

Tomorrow I go for my surgery with Dr S.  I was very pleased to finally meet the Dr and especially Jen & Kristin.  Jen is very helpful having been thru bariatric surgery herself.
I am not nervous but I am not pleased to be in this position.  I was so well on my way to being successful with my first surgery of RnY until a personal life changing situation.  Now 6 years later I am making this HUGE commitment for a life change of a different nature.  My primary concern is the malodorous gas and diarrhea.  I will be doing everything necessary to avoid or at least keep under control these possible side effects.
Surgery is at 7:30AM.  Wish me luck.
