I am home!

Apr 29, 2012

I had surgery on Monday the 23rd. I was in the recovery room for a couple extra hours due to be nauceous. Then I went to my room and Rakia (my daughter) and Shawn (my hubby) were there. Yay. I felt pretty good. One of the bandages on my stomach slipped and I woke up with the front part of my gown wet. I leaked a bunch of fluid but did not really open up at all. So they redid the one bandage. And the next morning after my 0400 walk I got nauceous again. They gave me something for it and for pain but I ended up dryheaving for like 5 agonizing minutes. Oh it hurt so bad. I was exhausted after that and slept for a hour or so. I woke up hurting and was still sore and they tried to give me a different pain killer and nauceous stuff. I dry heaved again, then cried. I have an allergy to Phenigrin but they decided to give me some benydryl first and then the Phenigrin. Thank God it worked.  I didnt walk that day, I slept. Then that evening I went for another walk and my hubby showed up. He spent the whole night in the room with me. Which worked great because I got to walk whenever I needed. We also live approx 65 miles from this hospital and they released me the next morning so it saved a trip and gas. Yay. Things here at home are going great. I walked the block with my daughters yesterday.  By the end I was dragging a bit, but I did it. I am going to walk the block once each day for a week and then try it twice a day. I start my full liquids on tuesday. I am excited to get my protein shakes back and to start my vitamins again. I hope everyone is doing good and having a great weekend!!

Starting pre-op diet on monday

Apr 07, 2012

Well, I finally got my husband to watch a animation of the RNY procedure and watch a little information given by a nutritionist.  Then yesterday he drove me all the way to Scottsdale and we had a romantic dinner at the Salt Cellar. A fabulous seafood place.  I had my Alsakan King crab dinner followed up by a slice of amaretto cheesecake.  My last big portioned dinner.  I am sure I will have crab again someday. Not cheesecake though lol. I thought of putting a some cherry and almond extracts in my vanilla protein shake. It might be good.  My diet starting on Monday consists of a protein shake in am, and one at noon, then a dinner of a protein and vegetables. Oh, and a cup of fruit sometime during the day also. I thought it would be a straight liquid diet.  Alot of the people I see on the boards are full liquid diets.  I will be on a full liquid diet when coming home from hospital for a week.  I'm excited. I go shopping tomarrow for things for my diet and some sippy cups, and baby spoons for after my surgery. Yay.

Changed mind

Apr 02, 2012

Hi.  Well after a lot of talking with family, friends, and lots and lots of online research I have decided to go with the gastric bypass instead of the sleeve.  I talk with the surgeon on wed the 4th of April and find out my surgery date. Yay.

First Time Here

Sep 12, 2011

Today is my first time to this site.  I think I filled everything out right.  I am on my way to having the "sleeve" surgery.  I have been overweight most of my life.  I am a very busy busy person.  I have 5 horses that I have to exercise, coralls to be cleaned,  a garden to tend, and I walk alot (3 dogs), and I also walk on my treadmill.  I get so sick of the doctors telling me to "exercise more".  I dont think 1/4 of them could do what I have to do in one day.  I am an emotional eater, and I think also  have a problem feeling full.  I never feel full until its in the back of my throat.  Totally stuffed.  Only my husband and daughter, and one friend know I am going to have this surgery done.  I am not scared or really worried about it, just want it over with already.  My husband is worried not me.  I have had my first appointment with the surgeon, Dr. Aldrige in Flagstaff, AZ.  I have also had my sleep study - have moderate to severe sleep apnea- said I woke up an average of 47 times in an hour.   No wonder I am so tired ALL THE TIME. lol.  I also had my first appointment with the bariatrician and the nutritionist.  I really  need to work on my chewing, and taking sips of water throughout the day.  I am more of a guzzler than a sipper.

I would like to meet and talk to anyone out there that has had the "gastric sleeve" surgery done.  Or anyone for that matter. lol.  I am currious about the pain, of course, but for some reason I just cannot imagine all those staples.  Has anyone had problems, has anyone feel odd pain in the stomach months after this surgery is done?  I train and ride horses alot, and I keep picturing being thrown off a horse and my staples coming apart.  lol.  I know, it sounds awful, and prob unlikely but I just need to be sure.  I live in Northern Az.  Thanks, Neaucora
