Guts in a Rut

Sep 14, 2008

Okay, as you can see, I rarely update this blog. But I made a shiny new one, with actual updates. Holy crap, I know. This is serious.

Blog!

Read it, comment, hate it, love it, all of the above. I might give you pretty shiny things.

It's been a long time

Sep 23, 2007

Okayyy I haven't updated this thing in AGES. I had my surgery on May 21st and to be honest, sort of lost interest in OH for a while. For the first month out of surgery I felt like poop and was regretting it up and down and hating myself, thinking "what have you done! Are you crazy??", you know, the typical thing to do.

But like most post-ops will tell you...you get over it, and you start to really appreciate it and enjoy it. You adjust.

But time flies and here it is 4 months later, and I've lost around 80 pounds. I still have another 100 to lose but I am certain that I will get there.

I've really been into COOKING lately (who, me?? the girl of a thousand take-out menus?). I love it. I've got the only two WLS-related cookbooks I could find around here and I am loving trying new foods. I really *enjoy* food now, because I'm actually tasting it. I don't need as much as I used to, but I'm used to it now. Plus, everything I cook is lowfat/low cal/low carb and who knew it could be so tasty?

I'm trying to spruce up my signature and everything...OH can be hard to navigate sometimes. I <3 my new ticker.

3 days away!

May 18, 2007

So Monday is my day and I am both excited but also a little nervous. OK, a lot nervous! I went for my pre-admit-testing on Wednesday and the same day was told that I'll need my gallbladder out the same time as my RNY. I'm glad it's coming out now instead of later, and it's also a great reason to NOT get the jitters and back out, because it needs to be done.

I bought a pair of really stretchy PJ pants from Lane Bryant...and I HATE THEM! They don't flair at the bottom (at all--feels like they're trying to strangle my ankles) and fit strangely. My bad for not trying them on, I guess, but really, I had no idea anyone still made PJ pants like that. Sooo I guess I'll be wearing my ratty velours from old navy. Let's just hope they still fit after I'm all swollen and gross, haha.

I got my date!

May 11, 2007

I'm scheduled for my RNY on May 21st...so fast, *too* fast almost. I expected mid June at the earliest. I am so stoked! I'm supposed to be on a high-protein diet but I don't have to lose any weight, just try to get in lots of protein. I go next Wed. for pre-admin testing and everything...it's going to be a busy month, to say the least.

Usually I avoid all caps but I AM TOO EXCITED FOR WORDS.

APPROVED!

May 09, 2007

I dropped off my 6 month diet pack to my surgeon's office on Monday, called about it yesterday and I am APPROVED! I never thought I'd hear that word, at least not so soon. They said they'd call me at the beginning of next week to schedule a date. It won't seem completely real until I get my date. I have been wanting this for so long...I am thrilled.

This news is a great way to start off the summer! Hopefully I'll be on the loser's bench in a few weeks.

6 mo. diet complete!

Apr 19, 2007

Well I'm FINALLY finished with my 6 month diet...I didn't do too well on it but I basically maintained my weight within a couple of pounds. If I could lose it all on my own...I wouldn't need WLS. I heard from all different people that if you lose a lot, they will deny you, but if you gain a lot, they will deny you, so who knows. We'll see. I have great insurance so I'm putting faith in them to not be cryptic and screwey.

All that I have left to do now is write my own letter to insurance, pick up my Dr.'s letter and notes from the diet, gather a few more records, and I'm all set. And totally freaked that they will say "NO!". I put off nursing school for the summer so I could do this...it had better work!!!
