Time to regroup and start over.

Aug 16, 2011

I did it again, fell off the wagon.  I have to find a way to get around eating those carbs that go down tooooo easily.  I did eat a lot more veggies yesterday in an attempt to avoid them but got lazy in the evening when I was tired after the gym and before dinner was done cooking.  I need to make healthier choices and I am going to do it right today.  I will try a protein shake instead of empty or easy to get carbs.  I need to continue coming back to this web-site and remember my goal:  lose most all my weight by my 50th birthday.  That is October 25 of this year.  I have about 30 pounds to go.  With support and focusing I know that I can do it.        "God helps those who help themselves"

Time to focus.

Aug 14, 2011

Well, the past few months have been very stressful.  I have done some dating and alot of eating, eating what I should not.  I had to review the 10 Commandments of Weight Loss Surgery.  Over the past few months I have gained 8-10 pounds and there is no excuse.  I have to work on my protein and water intake, also my exercise program, or the lack of one.  I need to continue to come to this site every day to help me to stay focused on weight loss.

The Ten Commandments of Weight Loss Surgery

The Ten Commandments of Weight Loss Surgery

 1. THOU SHALL NOT DRINK WITH THY MEALS.

This means never!  This is cheating...cheating yourself.  It washes the food out of your pouch and allows you to eat more.  This will slow and eventually stop your weight loss. PLUS you will not be getting all the benefits of the wise choices you have filled your little pouch with.

 2. THOU SHALL EAT SLOWLY.

This is not a rule for the first few months post op.  This rule is for the rest of your life.

 3. THOU SHALL TAKE THY VITAMINS.

Surgery is a great tool for weight loss. Take all prescribed vitamins ordered by your surgeon and have your blood checked periodically for adjustments.

 4. THOU SHALL EAT ADEQUATE PROTEIN.

Always eat what your surgeon dictates but the amounts are usually at least 50-60 grams a day.  The further out you get the more you will want to increase this to 80-90 grams.  If you train/exercise a lot go higher.

5. THOU SHALL EXERCISE.

Just do SOMETHING.  Even if it means starting off simply...take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator.  Park at the furthest spot in the parking lot.  Carry your shopping basket instead of pushing the cart.  Join curves to start out.  Once you start losing and can move more  you will want to challenge yourself more.  End goal?  Maybe a run or Triathlon.  Yes I said Triathlon!

6. THOU SHALL DRINK WATER.

At least 64 ounces of water, everyday. It seems that some people have problems doing this. Use a water bottle and carry it with you everywhere.  Sip all day long.  Or refill a gallon jug and drain it every day.  Do it in 2 pitchers.  Do it with 2-32oz sport water bottles.  Please note however, that if you are drinking coffee or tea with caffeine, you will have to compensate for the diuretic effects of the caffeine.  Caffeine robs your body of water, therefore, you will not only be unable to count the coffee or tea, but you will have to drink an extra cups of fluid for every cup of regular coffee or decaffeinated tea that you drink to compensate for the diuretic effects of the caffeine.

7. THOU SHALL EAT WELL BALANCED MEALS.

Protein first and foremost, then green/yellow vegetables,  then fruit, then complex carbs.

8. THOU SHALL NOT EAT SUGAR.

In ANY form....
None, nada.  Treat yourself with some fresh fruit!!

9  THOU SHALL NOT REWRITE THE COMMANDS.

To suit thy cravings, emotional needs or any other reasons.  It will not work.  You will only defeat yourself physically and emotionally.

10. THOU SHALL LOVE THYSELF.

Be happy with the body you have. It was not intend for all of us to be supermodels, and this surgery will NOT make you one. Happiness comes from within. Be happy with who and what you are. Or you will defeat yourself mentally.   Then the battle will be lost before it is ever even begun.

I made it to onederland!

Dec 08, 2010

Yes, I finally am under 200.  It has been soooo long since I saw anything less than 200.  I don't ever want or plan to go back.  Thank God for Dr.Guske and getting me through my gastric bypass last year.  I have so much to be thankful for this year.  I've regained my health and have lots of eneregy to do things with my grandson and my kids.  Work isn't such a chore anymore either.  Now, I just need to meet goal.  That will be sure to happen before my next birthday in October. ; )

Still working toward my weight loss goal.

Aug 14, 2010

Well, I continue to work on losing weight but have to push myself a little harder.  Everyone tells me that I look like I have lost more weight.  They are seeing it in my face and neck. I need to focus on protein intake and my iron level is too low.  I started to take a supplement to help out because I noticed that I'm out-of-breath for no reason and tired again.  I'm sure it's all related.  I just need to focus more and start recording my intake again, plus water, water, water.

One Year Anniversary Coming

Apr 08, 2010

My one year anniversary is coming up April 21st.  I can't believe it's been almost a year since my RNY.  If I had it to do all over again, I would do it in a heartbeat.  My health has been dramatically improved in all regards:  my asthma is sooo much better, diabetes is a thing of the past as well as my hypertension.  I can move better and faster without all the pain.  My outlook on life in general is so much better.  Thank God that I made this major step and took the risk of surgery.  I will keep looking forward and continue what I have been taught by the Kane Center and all the people that have supported me along the way.

21 weeks, 3 days post-op

Sep 18, 2009

Well,
I am down  a total of 87 pounds.  I have been able to stop some of my diabetes and blood pressure meds and am wearing a size 2x.  I have soo much more energy and I can reach to take care of "private matter's" in the bathroom with ease.  It sure was worth all that I have gone through and I look forward to my continuing weight loss journey.  I have started to exercise more too.  Sure, I'm not at goal but am certainly going to make it there.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 and a half weeks out

May 08, 2009

Well,
Surgery was 2 1/2 weeks ago and I'm still going.  I have had my struggles but for the most part, it was worth every ounce of pain.  I only wish that I had done this earlier but I am an the loser's bench now and happy to see the weight starting to come off.  Just a little longer and I will be able to enjoy more of a soft diet,  Pureed and blended foods aren't my favorite but you do what ya gotta do.

9 days post-op

Apr 29, 2009

Well, yesterday I went to my doc and got my drain out.  What a difference in how I feel without that tube stuck inside of me.
They weighed me and I have lost 20 pounds already. This certainly isn' the easy way to lose weight.  I still have a bit of discomfort around wher the drain was and if it doesn't calm down with time, I'll ask Dr.Guske about it.
I actually ate some cottage cheese and part of a lean cheeseburger, and some mashed potatoes yesterday.  The nurse practitioner told me that I could try some well blended foods and that's what I did.  Boy, was it good.  The more protein I get in the better I feel too.  Will continue to try new foods but have also discovered some things that don't agree with me like tomato soup with non-fat dry milk powder.  I may be lactose intolerant.
