The Journey so far......

Feb 20, 2010

Well, it is almost 4 weeks since the "big day".  I have been kind of lax about this blog thing, but I thought it would be a good idea since it is kind of slow today at work to put some thoughts down for posterity sake.....

The Surgery went really well.  I did not feel very well after coming out of the anesthesia, but nothing new there - it always kicks me in the ass..  by midnight that night I was walking laps, and since I was spending most of the time either sleeping or walking, I was up about every two hours and walked and walked......

I have experienced my purgatory.......

The ride home from Michigan was pure hell.  I now know that I must live the rest of my life very carefully so as to avoid going to hell, because I know that I will spend all eternity in the passenger seat of the Torrent riding back and forth from Michigan to Balm Beach.  I could not get comfortable, I could not burp, I could not fart, and I could not stop urinating.....  Add that to the stress level my wife was at (combination of my surgery and driving on an interstate) and I was ready to have someone put a bullet in my head
By the next morning though all was well in the universe again.  Nothing like a good nights sleep in your own bed!

I have found that since the surgery, my hunger is gone, my desire for snacks is gone, my craving of salty foods is gone, and I have turned into a bloodhound.  I can smell stuff from the other room, that I never knew existed before.  Helen can walk in the house after work, and I can be in the other room of the house and smell the bleach on her hands from cleaning up the restaurant.  I walked past the snack bar at the mall last night and the smell of onion rings actually made me gag.......  I need to get Helen a new scent of body lotion because her old one smells wrong - there is no other way to describe it, just wrong......

So far I am down about 35 pounds, and have more energy than I ever remember having.  Some of the mini-wow moments so far:
-I can reach my feet to tie up my shoes
-my rings fell off when I took off my gloves the other day - had to put my wedding band on a chain around my neck
-I got to clean out my closet and throw out a whole bunch of stuff that I know I will never need again.

Hopefully I will not wait so long for the next post.
