04-09-07 IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME!!!! AND I'M STILL FAT!!!!

Well, it's almost 2 years out and I still haven't been approved for this surgery. I was so excited recently! I was on United Health Care and couldn't believe I would finally be able to get my surgery. Yea Right!!! My sorry ass company had an exclusion! and Poor Dr. Simpson got to see me blubber all over his office! So, back to square one. I am looking for a new job with insurance that covers my surgery!!! Anyone have any companies to shoot for! I have my degree in Business Administration and minored in HR. I am currently a year into my Master's at Keller Graduate School of Management working toward my MBA and again emphasizing in HR! Any suggestions would be great! Well, when I first found out about this surgery I blabbed all over town about it! I can't believe all the people who don't know about it and have to waste their life away being fat. Unfortunately I am still one of them! 2 of my friends have had the surgery. One is down 70lbs since June of 06, and the other was banded last week and is already down 22 lbs!!!!! Yeah for them, I am a horrible jealous friend and would have laid my ass on that table for them in a heartbeat!!! My day will come! I know. and if not, my fiance will be done with dental school in less than a year and will pay the damn 17K for me to get it. A year is so long to wait though!!!! Since I have been on this site I have gained about 10-15 lbs. I look at that skinny girl on my profile pic and can't figure out how 15lbs can do that to someone! I was really fat then yet, I think I look pretty good!!! Scarry! Looking for new friends here. That can share this experience with me!!!!!

Hello again, Well, Just about 2 months later. Now into this supervised diet thing. It's still really strange and scary to me I am on Mercy care plan of Arizona and am required to have a documented 5% weight loss from my baseline as a result of the 6 month supervised diet that I have to be on. My BMI is at 40.3 now and have not lost any weight, but 5% of 222 is what? 11 lbs. That will bring me below a bmi of 40. Someone said that I have to have it documented sometime during the 6 months. So, maybe if I loose the 11 lbs, its documented then gain it back before the end of the 6 month period then I will still qualify? How does that sound? My mind is boggling, Can you tell? Any suggestions? To be truthful, I think I even gained a little weight. What to do, what to do??? Anyone who knows anything about this please help me!
Thanks!

Hi All!
Just an update, to let you know that absolutely nothing has changed yet. I did get my profile spruced up and I love, love, love it! It’s totally what I wanted. The virtual model actually somewhat looks like me! I would never wear that shirt though!!!(Not big on animal prints!) Anyway, I did however get a hold of my old primary physician to see if she would write me a letter regarding my past diet history and the diets we did together. I'm hoping this will qualify for my 6th month supervised diet. If not then I will need to complete the one I started with my new pcp and that means I'll have to wait until January for my surgery. Man, I really hope not. I want it now. It's horrible I'm a message board junkie! I hear all of what everyone is going through and the great success everyone is having and I want to be a loser too! I am so impatient, but I really have no choice so I will wait for my letter from my old Dr. and see if it is acceptable and then let you know what happens. Oh, and I am still 5'2 but Dr. Simpson's scale says' I'm 222lbs, not 226. So my BMI is 40.3. I'm so close it's scary. I have no co-morbidities so I am at the borderline of being approved!!! Keep me in your prayers please!!! I'll post soon after I hear anything!

Hi Anybody! Today has been a good day! I went to the seminar this morning and met Dr. Simpson and Kathleen, they are great. I bought his book and have already almost finished it. I just can't get enough info on this stuff. I have a consultation with him on Tuesday 6-14-05 at 1:00pm. He and Kathleen already answered some of the questions I had. In case anyone's curious, because I couldn't find them in the boards or other profiles.

They are as follows:

1. If my insurance requires me to follow a supervised diet for six months and I am at the BMI that barely qualifies me now (41.3, no severe co-morbilities),for the surgery and I "Do" lose weight and drop my BMI below qualifying BMI, Will I still qualify for the surgery? Or will I have to wait until the weight comes back and BMI is raised again to be re-qualified for the surgery?

*Need to clarify this-I'll get back to this after my appt.*

2. If I have previously had a psychiatric evaluation recently, Will that be good enough for the approval process or do I need an evaluation specific to the weight loss surgery?

Kathleen, said that I will need a specific evaluation.

3. Will my insurance cover payment for fills when I need them?

Kathleen says, If the insurance covers the original surgery then fills will be covered as well.

Besides the questions (I forgot to ask him), He was very informative and very personable, I believe him that he takes our lives very personal and am really looking forward to working with him. Has great sense of humor. We'll click perfect! First thing Monday morning I have to call my PCP and see if he has my letter ready to take for Tuesday's appt. Oh, yeah Dr. Simpsons After care for the Lap band is $650.00, I was worried about how I was going to pay for that being a full time student (no job, 2 toddlers!) but after the seminar my beau, Patrick said he'd put on his credit card! Isn't he great. I love him.
I'll post again after my appt on Tuesday or sooner if I get an answer to my question #1 from above!
Goodnight,
Linda

ps. I submitted my photos, so hopefully they'll be up soon!

Well, I went to my PCP on Monday and he gave a referral to see Dr. Simpson. I have been researching the Lap-Band and Kathleen from Dr. Simpson’s office said that he'd probably only approve me for the Lap-Band because I "Only" weigh 226lbs. I am 5'2 and weigh 226lbs. (BMI 41.3) I carry it pretty well. But not well enough, I am bottom heavy Butt, hips and legs. My dad says I have no knees and Cankles (No ankles) what a nice guy huh! I still love him. Well, I used to be only bottom heavy. Since I have gained more weight my flat tummy is bulging and my arms have gotten pretty big. As soon as I figure out how to put pictures on I will. I like many of us, Have a (as I have been told) a beautiful face and nice "big" shapely body, But now that nice body just has a little too much shape. I go to the seminar tomorrow morning with Dr. Simpson at 10am. My boyfriend Patrick is going with me. I am so excited. Like many of us, I can't wait. I wanted this surgery yesterday!

Anyone who has had the Lap-band surgery and can give me some weight loss stats, I'd appreciate it. Please email me! The more information I can get the better! Thanks in advance for the support!
