03/12/2005 - With a BMI of 52 at my current age of 51 (52 in April!) I have to say it is great to have found OH.com. What a wonderful resource and community of folks! My regular physician has mentioned wls as a viable option whenever we've talked the last few visits. He has watched me go through all the usual with dieting, meds, therapy, etc. only to watch the weight keep coming back, plus those bonus pounds, for the last 10 years. After doing South Beach last year and now being at my heaviest I have sworn off "dieting" as it just makes me fatter. Unfortunately, though, after all these years I am now faced with those co-morbidities and a lousy quality of life; arthritis (hips, knees, back, ankles), hbp, high cholesterol, sleep apnea and just this week some heart issue yet to be diagnosed. On the other hand after looking into wls over the last two weeks, mostly online, reading many posts from folks here and in other groups who are looking into, pre and post wls I have to seriously consider this option if I truly want a healthier, and hopefully longer, life.
