more bad news

Mar 04, 2009

About a week and a half ago.  I tried to eat some shrimp at a resturant.  What a dummy move!!!   On my diet plan it said I can start eating turkey, chicken and fish.  Well Shrimp is not the same as regular fish.  it is much more fibrous just like beef and is very hard for my new stomach to break down at this time.  So needless to say I was vomiting and nausea for 2 days finally went to the ER and was admitted so they could give me fluids so I would not get dehydrated.  on the last day there I ate some cottage chees and a little boiled egg and they thought I was okay.  That night again nausea and vomiting.  Went back to ER and was admitted again.  Wasn't even home 24 hrs.   Long story short, I had a stricture.  Not sure if the stricture was before or after the shrimp but they put the scope down my throat and widened it and now I am fine.  Now the only thing is I have a cold.  But I can live with that.  Still blessed that I am alive and back at work.  I pray that everything is up hill from here.  Keep me in your prayers.

On a good note  I am down to 213lbs  from 251.  that is a total weight loss of 38lbs in a month.  Yippee!

Surgery

Feb 05, 2009

I had surgery on Tuesday 01/27/09 and surgery went well.  Had pain but not uncontrollable.

The drama started the next day while in the hospital....

When they got me up to walk the next day my oxygen level was dropping low so I had to stay on oxygen the whole time in the hospital.   Before releasing me they called in an pulmonogist who did xray and apparently thought I was ok to go home.  Came home friday felt miserable.  didn't have a whole lot of pain.  But felt miserably short of breath and caughed up a lot of phlegm (spelling).

I called the surgeon about all the phlegm I was coughing up and he said it is nothing to worry about because i need to get that out.  Said if it continued to contact the pulmonologist the next day.

By Saturday afternoon when i tried to go upstairs to go to the bathroom it felt like I had to climb 10 flights of stairs.  (I only have about 10 stairs total)  by the time I got to the top of the stairs I was sweating so bad and out of breath so bad.  I called the pulmonologist and he told me to go to the ER.

Went to the ER and they immediately rushed me back.  They thought I had a pulmonary embolism.  After test, CT Scan and Xray.  I had pnuemonia (thank God!!!)   So long story short I was back in the hospital one day after being released and spent another 5 days in the hospital.  I am just now getting home again and feeling REAL GOOD.  I am going to keep praying to god that I don't get sick again.

submit to insurance

Dec 30, 2008

I had the consultation with the surgeon on 12/24/08 and all went well.  I was still a little undecided about the lap band or RNY.  But now I decided that I am going to have the RNY.  I have my Exercise and Pre-Op diet on 1/15/09.  Also I called the Weight loss center and spoke to the insurance coordinator and she is submitting the approval request today to the insrance.  keeping my fingers crossed and praying that the approval comes as quick this time as the last time.

Sleep Study follow-up

Nov 24, 2008

today I went to see my Sleep apnea doctor (I don't know what they call them.  I guess pulmonary doctor) for a follow up to make sure I was using my CPAP machine regularly for 30 days.  And all is clear.  She said she will fax over the clearance to the Mercy Center for Weight Reduction today.  Now, I am just waiting for the Center to call me back and set up an appointment to meet with the surgeon again.
