I can't believe I haven't done this. Well, here's my story. I'm 55, married for 32 years with 3 children. I am a nurse and live in NW Arkansas. I have been steadily gaining about 10 lbs a year since my late 30's after having a hysterectomy. Just before my RNY surgery I had ballooned up to 305 lbs. I was extremely depressed, tired all of the time, and to the point where my weight was really interfering with many of my activities of daily living. I was to the point where I could no longer put my own socks on anymore. Personal hygiene was becoming a real challange. I felt ashamed to be out in public and worried that I had become so gross that my husband would get fed up with me at some point and give up on me. I had gastric by-pass surgery on 06/18/2008 by Dr. Roller in Springdale. I will never forget that date because it is the day my life changed for the better. Tomorrow it will be 5 months since my surgery. I have lost 87 lbs and I am feeling much better. I am quickly regaining my life again and it feels wonderful. I have been working on making healthy life-style changes so that I can get maximum benefit from the tool I have been given. That's the hard part. Getting into a routine of healthy eating and exercise and keeping up with it. I have some times when I slip up but I just forgive my self and redouble my efforts to follow a healthy path. I would recomment this surgery to anyone considering it that has not been able to be successful with diet and exercise alone.
