Ok. So today I attended the mandatory seminar... again. Since it was more than a year since I attended the last one, I had to do it again. I should be receiving a call next week for my consulation appointment. I'm pretty excited.  I'm one step closer!

Just FYI on Texas Medicaid

I have a little bit more information on Texas Medicaid. I called my doctor's office and asked more questions. I was told that TX Mediciad requires 6 months of doctor visits and testing. So, once a month I will see a member of their staff to do testing for diabetes, sleep apnea, etc and meet wtih a nutritionist. Once these requirments are fullfilled, they submit everything over the Mediciad for approval. So far they haven't had any problems with getting approvals for this surgery, which was really nice to hear. At least I can stop driving myself crazy for a little while. Oh, and a refereal from a PCP is not required :)

The beginning of a new life??? Hopefully :)

Well, I made the decision to have this surgery about 2 years ago. I attended the required seminar and by the end, I had made up my mind -I wanted to have this surgery. The only thing that was keeping me from doing it was my insurance company.

I was just recently laid off in May, so I haven't had insurance. I read somewhere that in Texas, Medicaid is offered to women who have a child and who don't have much income. That's me!

The Women’s Health Program provides some Medicaid services to women ages 18 to 44 who have low incomes. This program provides one year of coverage and can be renewed each year the woman qualifies.

Benefits include:

  • Comprehensive health history.
  • Gynecological exam and Pap smear.
  • Screening for diabetes, sexually transmitted diseases, high blood pressure, and breast and cervical cancers.
  • Assessment of health risk factors, such as smoking, obesity and exercise.
  • Counseling and education on birth control methods, including the health benefits of abstinence.
  • Birth control, except emergency contraception.
So... I applied and I was accepted! I immediately called the surgeon I had picked out and gave them my information and scheduled to attened another seminar (August 11th) since it had been more than a year since the last one I attneded. I got online a filled out their patient questionaire and submitted it. A few hours later I received a call from their offices... My medicaid had been verifed and she said once I attend the seminar, the doctor will schedule for my first visit wtih him. This is the closest I have been to having this surgery. I've been rejected twice by 2 different insurance companies and the cash cost of it is impossible for me. The news of just getting to that first doctor visit brought me to tears.

So, since this news... which was given to me on Friday, 07/20/2012. I have been driving myself crazy. I keep thinking "this is too good to be true". I NEED so much to have this surgery. I'm scared for my future if I don't. I'm really scared that it isn't going to be approved by medicaid. I really don't see why it wouldn't, it's cleary medically nesseccary. And of course the days are creeping by....
