Eight Years Later

Apr 11, 2009

I hate to say it but I had forgotten how many years it has been or even my "Birthday" of my WLS surgery.  Yes, that does happen.  SO my "Happy Birthday" e-mail arrived telling me that it had been 8 years yesterday.  Wow, amazing.  Incredible and yes, it does work but you have to work it just like any other "program" out there you have to do what is required of you and eat the way they tell you, small meals all throughout the day and what foods you must eat first and when.  Protein protein protein...first and foremost.  I am still right at 200 pounds.  I did get up to about 235, I was getting out of control with my eating I had to take some medication and that really reversed the way my surgery worked on my body.  It really messed with my mind and the way my mind worked and made me think about being full.  I hated it and when and told the doctor over and over I am not hungry but my body is acting like it is and I am having side effects that something is wrong.  I have since stopped that medication but the weight gain was already there.  It was hard to have to re-learn the steps again.   Thankfully new medication has made things easier for me.

I still always have that 15 more pounds I would love to lose, but I am a realist and know that I healthier now than I was 8 years ago.  I am in a better place now because I got my life back, I make better choices and make sure to make sure to live by example when eating to show my daughter the good way to eat food as fuel and not as an emotional comfort.  Exercise and move your body.  To do something!!!  I just don't want to see her have to struggle like I did.  I want to break the mold for her.
