My story is so similar to the many stories that I have seen on this site... I will be 40 in two weeks... I have so many of the co-morbid conditions: Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnea, supraventricular tachycardia (a mouthful, I know...) I have had a stroke, a couple of mini-strokes; there is also a strong family history of cardiac problems.
I began to research my weight loss options about 6 years ago. I have done the yo-yo dieting thing and it just doesn't work for me. I had a friend who decided that she would get the gastric bypass surgery. My first thought was that I would probably be a perfect candidate for that! About 5 years ago, I started researching the lap-band system and I was very interested in finding out more about the procedure. Unfortunately, that is when I started having the series of mini-strokes. My family doctor introduced me to a surgeon while I was in the stroke unit at the hospital. The surgeon gave me his card and told me that if I was serious about my weight loss, to call him the minute I got home from the hospital. I did... And the rest was yet to come.
I began what I call my journey to a new me on October 1, 2007. That was the first day I stepped foot in the surgeon's office. Things did not work out for me then with insurance, and with my health complications, so I am now re-visiting my options.
I have decided to try for the VSG this time. I'm still calling it my journey to a new me... It's just the REMIX! Lol. I've found a different surgeon & I went to his mandatory seminar on July 22nd. My first appointment is August 5th! Wish me luck!
