Over A Year Out
Oct 09, 2014
It has been almost 13 months since surgery and I feel great. I have lost a total of around 180lbs since heighest weight (from 397 to around 215). I did my first bike event, the Cure de Tour, I did the 51 mile route. Next month I am doing my first Tough Mudder, it is going to be hard but I will finnish! I have went from wearing 4-5x shirts down to L-XL , and from size 58 pants to size 38. I am in the gym 4 days a week and ride about 2-3 times a week. Started runing some, which is a challange with being a amputee below the knee on both legs. Can not say this enough, getting the DS surgey is the best thing for my health I have ever done.
Nine Month Update
Jun 18, 2014
It has been nine months since my DS surgery. I am down to 237lbs, so that is 160lbs since highest weight, 149lbs since first visit with surgeon and 123lbs since surgery. My last month I have been at a standstill as far as the scale goes but I have lost an inch or 2 around the waist. On the cloths side I have went from wearing a size 58 pants to size 40, from a shirt size of 4X to 1X-LG. I started working out at the gym 2 months after surgery and started a focused weight lifting plan 8 weeks ago. I know with the weight lifting plan my body is getting leaner even though the scale is not moving. I anticipate the scale will start moving again very soon. My goal is still in the 190s but will be ok even up to 220 with muscle gain and fat loss.
Week 17 Post Op Update
Jan 15, 2014
Been meaning to do a blog so here it is. It has been 17 weeks since surgery and I am down another 5 lbs. that is 79 since surgery, 105 since start of program and 113 since September of 2012. Only 12 lbs to my next goal! Hitting the gym 5 days a week (three days upper body and 2 days lower with cardio at ever workout). Also at the last belt hole in my second belt since all this started, time to make new holes! I am down from wearing 54 pants and 4X Shirts to wearing size 46 pants and 2-3x shirts. I could not be happier. I finaly nailed down what I am going to stick at diet wise. With the DS there is allot of different opinions on what and how to eat, full fat, low carbs what ever, so what I do is 1500-2000 cals, keep my carbs under 70, and low fat and 120 grams or more of protein a day., My doc told me to do 50% protein 30% carb and 20% fat. I am taking 2000 mg of calcium, 20 mg of Iron and A ADEK multi-vitamin (3 a day). I am waiting to get the results of my 3-4 month labs.
