Dr. Aranow is amazing! I met with him Spring of 2019 and he performed my RNY on 12/4/19. He and his practice are all simply amazing folks! Very helpful, honest, and knowledgeable. I knew from the informational meeting Dr. A was the right surgeon for me! I have lost 135 pounds with the help of Dr. A and his team...and am maintaining the loss due to the encouragement of the practice, the support group meetings, and the information and help provided post-op.

I would recommend DR.A for anyone who is going to have surgery. He is amazing makes you feel like a person and not just another patient.. I'm so blessed to have him as my surgeon.. Also one, more quality that is great is that he is straight forward and doesn't sugar coat anything. If your looking into surgery He is the best!!!

Dr. Aranow and Dr. Robles did my gastric bypass on April 10th 2014.. I have had nothing but the best care from both of the doctors . When I was contemplating the surgery I was 340lbs! It took me a year to get a date, but on the day of surgery I was at 294 lbs. I am now 19 months post op and I am weighing in at 124 lbs ( as of to day ) .
I can not thank both of the doctors enough. They have helped me get a good quality of life rather then watching it go by!
I Love that when you go for bypass surgery at their practice that you get the expertise of 2 amazing surgeons. They and their staff are more then helpful.
Thank you both for helping me both before and after the surgery. I can never express that gratitude that I have for you all.

Fantastic surgeon! I can't say enough good things about him. I was pain free and walking my neighborhood 4 days after VSG. The most annoying and lingering pain was from the breathing tube inserted during the operation. Bruised uvula pain lingers. I was down 15 pounds the first week Currently 2 weeks out from surgury).

Dr. Aranow is an excellent surgeon. He clearly communicated the expectations for success before the entire process began and provided necessary information along the way to support my success. I would like to commend, in particular, the professional team that supported the entire process, including the office staff, the nutritionist, the hospital staff, the psychiatrist, and the support group that I continue to attend. Each of these people/groups were incredibly important and responsible for my success.

It has been 13 months since my surgery date. I have lost a total of 186 pounds and I have passed the goal recommended to me by Dr. Aranow. I continue to rely on the nutritionist, Kitty, and the psychiatrist, Kim, for my ongoing battle to maintain the weight loss, along with the support group at Middlesex Hospital. I realize that maintaining the weight loss will never be easy, but it is manageable with this great support team.

I typically talk about my experiences with only close friends and family because it is still a private journey for me. However, if anyone wishes to ask questions to assist in personal decisions and you believe that I can be of help, please contact me. I would not hesitate to highly recommend Dr. Aranow to perform the surgery that I had, robotic RNY gastric bypass. I have NO regrets about any of the decisions Dr. Aranow helped me to make. I am happy, healthy, physically fit, very active and I believe the quantity and quality of the years ahead of me have drastically increased.

What was your first impression of him?

Confident in his abilities , he cares about his patients, he emphasizes his lifetime commitment to you, he emphasizes he will be your surgeon, you won't be operated on by residents or students.

How did your impression change over time?

He's lived up to all of my expectations, a lot of his patients consider him like family, I can see where that comes from.

How would you describe his office staff?

Friendly, Competent, Caring.

What did you like least about him?

Nothing

What should future patient know about him?

He will help you meet your goals in any way he can.

How much does he enphasize aftercare?

Aftercare is essential for success, the surgery is only a tool

Does he have a structured aftercare program?

There is Surgical follow up and there are post-op support groups available to you.

How did he address the risks of surgery?

He addresses the potential complications of the procedures then addresses the frequency or more specifically the lack thereof of his complication rates.

How would you rate him overall?

A+

Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?

I worked for many years as a Critical Care Registered Nurse. It's all about Surgical Competence to me. If I did not feel comfortable in his abilities, I would not have let him perform surgery on me. In his case, the beside manner was a side benefit.

I would recommend this surgeon to anyone, although I was feeling pretty bad after surgery and had a couple hiccups he was there every step of the way!

I have not had my surgery yet but I have to say that up until this point it has been a relatively smooth process. I started with the informational seminar in March and followed the "list". My surgery is planned for October 30th. I have only had one appointment that was cancelled on me. The office has always been responsive to my phone calls. The only issue I had was with communication around insurance paperwork. That was quickly resolved and I am where I am today. I will update again after surgery.

I would like to start my review of Dr. Aranow by telling you a bit about my decision to have WLS. I went to see Dr. Aranow in September 2011. I was 350lbs and was having excruciating knee pain. I was told by my orthopedic surgeon that a dramatic weight loss would be the only way to avoid a knee replacement in the very near future. He reccommended that I speak with Dr. Aranow.
I attended the Bariatric Surgery information session and was impressed with Dr. Aranow's committment to improving the health and lives of people who have struggled with weight and the chronic illnesses that accompany obesity. Dr. Aranow was straight forward, yet compassionate. He did not do the "hard sell" for this procedure and certainly gave a realistic overview of what the expect from this journey.
My first meeting with Dr. Aranow was productive;I was presented with the hard facts of my physical condition for the first time. He thoroughly discused my options with me and gave me his reccomendations. I felt well informed after this meeting. His office was very helpful in making sure that I met all the requirements to satisfy my insurance. I really like that his office provides a full service including nutritional counseling, support groups and pre surgical counseling.
My surgery was fairly uneventful. I was well prepared going into the hospital. The presurgical visit to the hospital was informative. Dr. Aranow was available to answer questions post surgery and even had me text a picture of my incision to him when I had some concerns regarding healing. He was prompt in getting back to me.
It has been 6 mos. since my surgery. I have lost 80lbs. since March 28,2012. Including the 30lbs I lost prior to the surgery I am down 110lbs. I now have a second chance at life thanks to Dr. Aranow.
Dr. Aranow offers an expertise in WLS and comprehensive before and after care program. I have had a great experience with him and would reccomend him to anyone who is serious about taking on this new lifestyle.

Good Luck!!!
