I did a tremendous amount of research regarding the Lap Band procedure. i went to seminars, did research on line and consulted with my primary care provider. I wanted a Center of Excellence as well as a caring and attentive doctor. I've had an initial consult with Dr Shayani and he is currently setting up the required testing and labs with my pcp. He could not have been more accomodating, more pleasant or more thorough. He will answer any questions that you or your doctor may have and has several hospitals that he is affiliated with. He truly understands the battle that we are facing and is willing to help you face it dead on providing you are willing to do the work as well. While he is affiliated with several hospitals as I said he also has his own stand alone program and after doing the amount of research I have done I will guarantee he has one of the lowest cost surgery programs for self pay in the Chicagoland area if not the absolute lowest. Certainly for a COE. So far, soooo excellent. He also answers his email too :).
I went to this doctor's seminar and he seemed to really care about what he could do for all of us. When I tried to make an appointment, I was put off by his manager who stated they had to verify my insurance. This went on for weeks. I finally had my carrier fax them a pre-treatment authorization with benefits. United Health Care told me they had no record of anyone calling previously from that office. I was so relieved to finally schedule my appointment. Before the appointment I was seen by the nurse who was awesome. She made me feel so welcoming and told me the doctor was very good. Unfortunately, the man who did my consult was not the same man in that seminar. His attitude was gruff and uninterested. He asked me why I thought I was so obese? His demeanor was different. I could feel my heart sink. He sat in a chair, 6 feet from the exam table writing, never once looking at me. Why was I in a paper gown if he was never going to examine me? He asked me what diets I had been on and then told me to get dressed. That appointment was 5 minutes long. What a complete disappointment. This man is a great salesman, perhaps a good surgeon, but his bedside manner was not a good fit for me.
Dr. Shayani is an absolute gem! I wasn't sure when considering WLS which procedure to go with so I attended a seminar presented by Dr. Shayani at St. James Hospital. Then and there I knew whichever surgery I was to choose, I wanted Dr. Shayani as my surgeon. He is compasionate and genuinely concerned about you. He is not only a great surgeon but a great person. I highly recommend him, hands down!
A very quiet spoken man, but passionate about helping people to lose weight and do what they want to be able to do. The staff, former patients of Dr. Shayani's are wonderful. Very understanding, and encouraging. They go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and have all of your questions answered. Dr. Shayani is available and easy to reach at anytime, for any question or concern. He called me the day after surgery to see how I was doing. rnrnAftercare is emphasised very strongly. Exercise, eating properly, attending support group sessions. All of these help you toward successfully reaching your goals.rnrnI met with Dr. Shayani prior to surgery, where all of the risks were explained. He answered all of my questions and made me feel very comfortable and excited about the surgery.rnrnI would rate Dr. Shayani as an excellent physician and surgeon. He has a fantastic bedside manner and my surgical outcomes were good, no complications. He came recommended to me by another physician of mine and I would recommend him to anyone!
My doctor is really nice and I was really nervous. I know that he can and will address my concerns. I hope that he continues to be this knd. Tiffany is excellent she works in the office. There is no structed after care program and I feel that needs improvment. I will seek out help if I start falling between the cracks. The most important things that doctors should always know is that we are people and not a check.
When I first meet with Dr. Shayani, he was very nice, very laid back. The staff at this office is great!!!!! They tell you up front they will assist you with anything you need. One thing Dr stated to me was " If you pick me as your surgeon, we will be like family , because you will see me alot". I thought that was great he made that clear from the start, One thing I LOVE is he's always there to answer your questions, anytime, and when he said he's my e-mail add, I was like Yes he's a keeper........
-First Impression: My first impression of Dr. Shayani was that he was a Dr. I could trust. I instantly felt comfortable with him.rn-My impression of him has only improved he truely cares about his patient as a complete individual, a person, not a number. He also always takes the time to answer all your questions no matter how silly they may seem.. He goes above and beyond the call of duty. Also has one of the best bedside manners i have ever seen. I don't think there is anything negative i can say about him from my expirience. I would recommend him to everyone.rn- Dr. Shayani is also very knowledgable in his field of Bariatric surgery and not to mention the numerous other medical areas. Specializing in various other digestive Disorders (e.i. Gallbladder Disease). rn- At my initial consultation with him he made sure i walked out of there knowing all the risks of surgery and wether or not i was a good candidate. He also explained that this was not a miracle and it was something i would have to work with; and all the post op care, like adjustments, support groups, excercising, and nutrition.. He made me aware that after i had reached my goal weight i most likey would need some Plastic Surgery for sagging because of how heavy my start weight was and how long i have been overweight for.. He definattely made sure i knew what i was getting into from all aspects.rn-As far as his staffing goes... Since i have had surgery with him he has moved a couple of times and his staff at every place have been very helpful and kind. Depending on peoples thoughts i think this is the only negative aspect of him,, is that he moves around quite a bit.. But it is completly understandable in my mind because i know he is just trying to better himself and is career.rnrn**Overall based on my expiriences, on a scale of 1-10 Dr. Shayani would rate as a 12... Like I said to everyone i know if for any reason i would need some surgery again and Dr. Shayani performed it i would not hesitate to go to him feeling completely safe and confident in his care.
I only have the pre-op phase to report on. I had my surgery on 12/7/06. All pre-op conversations were extremely professional, warm, friendly and competent. The office and hospital staff at Loyola Medical Center were extraordinary. And with the number and amount of pre-op testing that is required, I met a lot of them. rnrnThe hospital staff spoke very highly of Dr Shayani as a skilled and friendly Dr.rnrnWill continue to update as I go through the process.
