Vets...anybody? Small amount of protein worth the carb count?
I am able to get in my 64 ounces of liquids. So now I am working on protein. I am having 3 shakes a day. If I make them with water I end my day with 70 g protein and 7 g carbs. If I make my shakes with milk I end with 82 g protein BUT 26 g carbs. I am aiming to stay under 20 g carbs, but I really like that protein number. So, is it worth it or should I be happy with the 70 g protein.
I have almond milk as well. The reason I was using the skim milk was the added protein. It has 8 grams per cup (I only use 1/2 cup) and the almond milk only has 1 gram per cup (would only get 1/2 a gram).
Milk gives me an extra 12 grams of protein a day, but the added carbs.
Almond milk is much less in carbs, but would only add 1.5 grams of protein for the entire day.
....
Wait, I just re-read. Are you saying to just add a little extra powder...? That would make sense. I am working out of sample packs at the moment, but I have a tub being delivered tomorrow. That would work.
Simple, yet brilliant! Haha! Thank you!
There are better, "cheaper" ways to get your protein in then getting it in milk. Get your protein from protein rich sources with fewer carbs and calories. My doctor does not not for us to use milk, he prefers the almond milk. You can add more protein and still keep the calories/carbs down by choosing almond milk and adding a bit more protein powder.
Do you have Kroger grocery stores in your area? Our Kroger makes a Carbmaster vanilla and plain milk that have 11 gms protein and 6 gms carbs. I use this for my shakes. I also use Unsw Almond Milk but like you said, there is hardly any added protein there. Just helps keep the carbs down and lower calories. I also found that light Soy milk has about 6 or 7 gms added protein without the carb load. So that is another option.
I have some of those. They are good to have on hand and don't taste bad, but are not my favorite. I plan on keeping them at my desk at work, just in case. I have been using Syntrax Matrix and Nectar Sweets powder. They are 23 grams protein. Some of them have 0 carbs the others are about 3-4 carbs. Plus they taste really good. Like I'm being naughty, but I'm not.
